Should You Watch Dashing Youth?
Yes, especially if you love wuxia!
The biggest draw for me is Neo Hou in this kind of role. The romance has a happy outcome for the main couple, but this is more of a martial arts adventure than a romance-heavy drama.
The biggest drawback for romance lovers is that the romantic storyline takes a backseat to friendship, martial arts, and political conflict.
Also, prepare yourself for a heartbreaking secondary storyline.
My Review — Neo Hou Belongs in Wuxia! ⚔️❤️
I love wuxia, and Neo Hou really suits this kind of role!
Seriously, something about him in these martial arts dramas just works. 😂
In Dashing Youth, he plays Baili Dongjun, a carefree young man who would rather spend his time making wine than becoming some legendary martial artist.
Unfortunately for him, destiny has other plans. Because apparently, minding your own business and making wine is too much to ask in the martial world. 😂
What makes this story interesting is that it isn't simply about becoming powerful. It's also about friendship, loyalty, responsibility, and what happens when people who once shared the same dreams end up walking very different paths.
And Neo Hou fits that youthful, mischievous, increasingly powerful martial artist role so naturally.
Give this man more wuxia dramas! ⚔️
The Story: Friendship, Martial Arts, and Destiny
Baili Dongjun grows up in a powerful military family, but his ambitions are surprisingly simple. He wants to become a legendary brewmaster, fulfilling a childhood promise to his best friend, Ye Yun.
His journey eventually leads him into martial arts training under the formidable Li Changsheng.
Along the way, he reunites with Ye Yun, now known as Ye Dingzhi, becomes close to the wandering martial artist Sikong Changfeng, and develops feelings for the mysterious Yue Yao.
But political conspiracies, rival factions, and personal tragedies threaten the friendships they once believed would last forever.
This is a story about a younger generation discovering that talent and strength cannot necessarily protect everyone they love.
Neo Hou as Baili Dongjun 👑
Neo Hou plays Baili Dongjun, whose playful confidence contrasts with the responsibilities that eventually fall on him.
The character begins as a carefree young man but gradually becomes a powerful martial artist facing difficult choices.
I think Neo really suits this kind of role. His youthful appearance and naturally mischievous screen presence work especially well for a character whose journey begins with adventure rather than responsibility.
This is exactly the kind of casting I enjoy seeing in wuxia.
Does Dashing Youth Have a Happy Ending?
Bittersweet overall. Baili Dongjun and Yue Yao remain together and plan to marry in Episode 40, but Ye Dingzhi dies. No wedding is shown.
The overall ending is bittersweet, but the main couple gets a happy romantic conclusion.
Baili Dongjun and Yue Yao remain together. By Episode 40, they are preparing to return to Qiandong City with plans to marry.
Their wedding is not actually shown, so I wouldn't classify them as married.
Unfortunately, Ye Dingzhi's story ends tragically.
After becoming consumed by revenge and unleashing destructive conflict, Ye Dingzhi ultimately chooses to end his own life in Episode 40.
Baili Dongjun desperately tries to save him, but cannot.
Ye Dingzhi dies with Yi Wenjun and his closest friend nearby.
That loss gives the finale a very different emotional weight from the main couple's hopeful ending.
Final classification: Bittersweet Ending.

- A secondary but meaningful part of the story. Friendship, adventure, and martial arts take priority.
- 🔥 Chemistry
- Baili Dongjun and Yue Yao share a gentle romantic connection. The drama doesn't emphasize intense romantic tension.

- Low for Baili Dongjun's relationship with Yue Yao. His major conflicts revolve around duty, friendship, and protecting others rather than mistreating his romantic partner.

- ⏱️ Romance Timing
- Mutual feelings become explicit in Episode 23, comfortably before the finale.

- Emotionally positive for the main couple, although the limited romantic screen time and absence of an actual wedding reduce the on-screen payoff.

- A one-year training separation and significant external conflict. Their romance is not built around repeated breakups.

- A wuxia coming-of-age adventure built around martial arts, friendship, political turmoil, loyalty, and tragedy.

Final Thoughts
4/5 ⭐ — FINISHED
I love wuxia, and Dashing Youth is another reminder of why I enjoy this genre.
Neo Hou really suits these kinds of roles, especially when he gets to play a young martial artist with a mischievous personality and plenty of room to grow.
The main couple does get a happy romantic ending, but the story itself is bittersweet.
If you're watching purely for romance and lots of kissing, this isn't that kind of drama. But if you enjoy martial arts adventures, complicated friendships, and characters finding their place in the martial world, it's worth watching.
And seriously, keep casting Neo Hou in wuxia. ❤️⚔️
