👑 Should You Watch It?
Yes, if you enjoy mysteries, identity twists, determined female leads, and romance developing alongside a bigger story.
The biggest strength is its unusual identity mystery and Jiang Xiaoyuan's personal growth. The biggest drawback is how long it takes to move the mystery and romance forward.
It's worth watching, but anyone expecting 30 episodes of intense romantic chemistry might want to lower those expectations. 😂
My Review: Wait, What Kind of Drama Are We Watching? 😂
Derailment starts with a pretty interesting premise. A wealthy young woman gets into an accident and wakes up in what appears to be another reality, where she's suddenly poor, has a completely different life, and apparently knows a mysterious man she doesn't remember.
Excuse me?! How did we get here? 😭
That setup has everything needed for an interesting mystery. Different identities, missing memories, suspicious connections, and a male lead who seems to know far more than he's saying.
But somewhere along the way, the story gets very invested in hair salons, makeup competitions, and building a career in the beauty industry.
Now, I understand why that storyline exists. Jiang Xiaoyuan needs to learn how to survive without her former wealth and privileges. Her transformation from a spoiled heiress into an independent woman is an important part of the story.
The problem is the balance.
When a drama opens with an apparent parallel universe and a mysterious accident, I'm expecting those questions to drive the story. Instead, the central mystery often has to share the spotlight with Jiang Xiaoyuan's professional development.
The beauty-industry storyline serves a purpose, but the pacing would have benefited from bringing the mystery forward more consistently.
👑 Jiang Xiaoyuan: From Princess to Independent Woman
One of the stronger elements of Derailment is Jiang Xiaoyuan's character development.
At the beginning, she has money, status, and the confidence of someone who has never seriously worried about surviving on her own.
Then everything disappears.
Suddenly, she has to work, manage money, deal with difficult people, and build a future without relying on her family's resources.
And she doesn't magically become perfect overnight.
She's stubborn, proud, impulsive, and sometimes difficult. But she also learns, adapts, and develops genuine skills.
Her growth feels earned because she actually has to work for it.
Liu Haocun's character has enough going on outside the romance that she doesn't exist solely to be rescued by a handsome man. That's a definite strength.
❤️ Qi Lian: Protective, Devoted, and Emotionally Complicated
Lin Yi plays Qi Lian, a man trying to uncover the truth about his missing friend and the mysterious situation surrounding Jiang Xiaoyuan.
He's intelligent, persistent, and protective.
His initial treatment of Jiang Xiaoyuan isn't always particularly gentle, especially when he believes she's somehow connected to the disappearance of someone important to him.
But his actions gradually shift from suspicion to genuine concern and devotion.
He helps her, looks after her, and eventually refuses to abandon her when things become dangerous.
And yes, Lin Yi certainly knows how to wear those glasses and long coats. The wardrobe department understood the assignment. 😂
Still, Qi Lian spends much of the series investigating, worrying, and withholding information. His devotion is clear, but that doesn't always translate into the romantic development I would have preferred.
🔥 Romance and Chemistry: The Payoff Comes Late
Here's where a 3.5/5 rating starts making even more sense.
Qi Lian and Jiang Xiaoyuan have an interesting connection, and their relationship develops through shared experiences, danger, and growing trust.
But the romance is a slow burn.
We get a cheek kiss in Episode 14, yet their relationship doesn't become official until Episode 24.
Episode 24. Out of 30.
Sir, we have six episodes left. Could we perhaps move things along? 😭
To be fair, their relationship isn't entirely absent before then. There are moments of tenderness, jealousy, emotional dependence, and protection.
But there is a difference between romantic tension and actual relationship payoff.
The chemistry is more restrained and emotional than intensely physical. Kissing and affectionate moments exist, but this isn't a drama overflowing with passionate couple scenes.
And when the relationship finally becomes official, the couple still has a dangerous mystery to resolve.
The romance works as part of the larger story. It just doesn't receive as much time to breathe as I would have liked.
Do They Break Up?
No confirmed breakup after becoming official in Episode 24. Jiang Xiaoyuan briefly distances herself to protect Qi Lian around Episodes 22–24, before their official relationship.
No confirmed breakup after Qi Lian and Jiang Xiaoyuan become an official couple.
However, their journey isn't completely smooth.
Around Episodes 22–23, Jiang Xiaoyuan distances herself from Qi Lian and leaves for Chongqing because she fears that remaining close to him will put him in danger.
She attempts to push him away, and their situation becomes emotionally painful.
But this happens before their official relationship in Episode 24, so I wouldn't classify it as a breakup between an established couple.
It's a temporary protective separation.
Fortunately, Qi Lian refuses to accept her distancing without understanding why she's doing it.
They reconnect in Episode 24.
🔎 The Mystery: Interesting Idea, Uneven Execution
The biggest reveal is that Jiang Xiaoyuan hasn't actually traveled between parallel universes.
Her apparent alternate reality is connected to the Lighthouse System, an experimental technology capable of altering memories and perceptions.
The mystery surrounding Xu Jingyang, the experiments, and Qi Lian's own memories eventually connects the separate storylines.
It's a creative concept.
However, the series takes a long time to reach its most important revelations, and several explanations arrive quite late.
The final episodes also have to juggle the mystery, Jiang Xiaoyuan's career, her health, and a dangerous antagonist.
That's a lot to resolve in a short amount of time.
I think a tighter structure would have given the bigger revelations more impact.
Does Derailment Have a Happy Ending?
Yes. Qi Lian and Jiang Xiaoyuan survive and remain together in Episode 30. Qi Lian proposes in the finale epilogue; no wedding is shown.
YES! Qi Lian and Jiang Xiaoyuan survive and remain together.
The finale becomes intense when Fan Xiaoxiao kidnaps them and repeatedly stabs Qi Lian.
Fortunately, the police arrive, and Qi Lian survives his injuries.
Jiang Xiaoyuan also survives the crisis surrounding the Lighthouse System and continues pursuing her professional dreams.
Fan Xiaoxiao faces a criminal investigation, and the truth behind the experiment is finally exposed.
Six months later, Qi Lian and Jiang Xiaoyuan return home to celebrate the New Year with Jiang's grandmother.
The ending brings them back to the railway tracks, where they reflect on their future.
Qi Lian proposes, reinforcing his commitment to staying beside her regardless of whatever unexpected turns life takes.
They're together. Nobody in the main couple dies. No tragic last-minute separation.
Thank goodness! After all that psychological chaos, at least we get a happy ending. ❤️
There's no wedding shown, though, so the final status is best described as together, with a proposal.

⭐ Final Verdict — 3.5/5
Derailment has an ambitious premise, a female lead with meaningful character development, a devoted male lead, and a satisfying happy ending.
But it also struggles with uneven pacing and competing storylines.
The mystery takes too long to reveal important answers, the beauty-industry storyline sometimes overshadows the original premise, and the romance doesn't officially begin until the final stretch.
The relationship is sweet and meaningful, but there's relatively little time for the couple to simply enjoy being together.
For me, 3.5/5 represents a good drama with a creative concept that could have been even better with tighter pacing and stronger romantic payoff.
It's enjoyable and worth considering, especially for mystery lovers, but it doesn't quite earn that higher rating.
At least the couple gets their happy ending. After 30 episodes of confusion, experiments, and near-death experiences, I think they've earned some peace. 😂❤️
Final Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐ Watch Status: FINISHED Ending: HAPPY ENDING ❤️
