Should You Watch It?
If you enjoy strong-willed heroines, protective male leads, political complications, and romances where love has to overcome national loyalties, Everlasting Longing might work for you.
But if you're like me and cannot stand characters constantly pushing each other away despite clearly being in love? Prepare your patience. 😂
My verdict: The romance has its moments, and the main couple gets a happy ending, but the prolonged push-and-pull storyline seriously tested my patience.
My Review: Can You Two PLEASE Make Up Your Minds? 🙄
My biggest complaint about Everlasting Longing is the push-and-pull romance.
Seriously. WHY?
We have Xuan Lie, who clearly wants Jun Qiluo back, and then we have Qiluo, who keeps pushing him away.
And it doesn't last one or two episodes.
SIX. FREAKING. EPISODES. 😭
I understand that they're from opposing nations. I understand the political complications, family obligations, and the consequences of being together.
But understanding the reason behind a separation doesn't automatically make watching it any less frustrating.
There's only so much romantic rejection I can sit through before I start getting annoyed.
And that's exactly what happened here.
The Push-and-Pull Romance
What made this particularly frustrating was that Xuan Lie wasn't simply ignoring Qiluo or refusing to fight for their relationship.
He wanted her back.
Meanwhile, Qiluo continued rejecting him despite having feelings for him.
By Episode 23, she's telling him they've severed ties. Then we have the complications involving Shao Qimin and her planned marriage, followed by even more emotional turmoil.
By Episode 27, they're finally reunited.
FINALLY!
Was all that back-and-forth necessary? Apparently, the writers thought so. 🙄
I don't mind romantic conflict when there's a legitimate reason for it. And yes, the circumstances here are more complicated than a silly misunderstanding.
But I also want to see the couple actually BE a couple.
Jun Qiluo and Xuan Lie
Jun Qiluo is a capable businesswoman who disguises herself as Jun Feifan to navigate a world that doesn't readily accept women in positions of commercial power.
Xuan Lie is a powerful northern leader whose responsibilities frequently clash with his feelings for her.
Their relationship begins with suspicion and develops through danger, cooperation, and attraction.
Xuan Lie becomes deeply protective of Qiluo, while she remains determined to protect her family and fulfill her responsibilities.
The problem isn't that their romance lacks obstacles.
It's that their relationship spends so much time being pulled apart by them.
Chemistry, Kissing, and Romantic Payoff 🔥
There is actual romance here, not just longing glances until the final episode.
The couple shares physical affection, romantic kisses, and an intimate relationship that results in pregnancy.
Their Episode 27 reunion includes a kiss, so at least we get a proper romantic reconciliation rather than everyone simply standing around looking emotional.
But chemistry and physical intimacy aren't enough to make a romance satisfying when the relationship itself feels exhausting.
I want devotion, affection, and a couple who chooses each other without constantly making me wonder whether they're going to separate again.
Does Everlasting Longing Have a Happy Ending?
YES. Everlasting Longing has a Happy Ending.
Xuan Lie and Jun Qiluo survive, reconcile, and end up together.
They also become parents to twins.
The finale establishes their future together and their continued commitment to maintaining peace between their nations.
Xuan Lie promises to marry Qiluo after returning from his duties. However, a completed wedding ceremony between the main couple is not clearly established in the ending.
Final relationship status: Together, committed, and raising their children.
So at least the drama doesn't make us suffer through all that romantic drama just to deliver a tragic ending. 😂❤️
Do They Break Up?
Yes. The couple experiences a significant romantic rupture and a prolonged separation.
Around Episode 20, Qiluo stages her apparent death by jumping from a cliff. Xuan Lie believes he has lost her.
When they reunite in Episode 23, she explicitly tells him that she severed their ties.
This is more than a brief disagreement. She rejects their relationship despite his attempts to reconnect.
They reconcile in Episode 27.
The conflict is driven primarily by national loyalties, family obligations, and political danger, rather than a straightforward misunderstanding.

Final Thoughts
Everlasting Longing delivers a happy ending, a capable female lead, and a male lead who ultimately fights for the woman he loves.
Unfortunately, it also delivers exactly the kind of prolonged push-and-pull romance that annoys me.
When he's trying to get her back and she's spending episode after episode pushing him away, I eventually stop feeling the romantic tension and start wondering when everyone is going to get their act together. 🤦♀️
Yes, they have legitimate obstacles.
Yes, they eventually reunite.
And yes, the ending is happy.
But getting there was unnecessarily frustrating for me.
Final Rating: 3/5 ⭐
The happy ending is appreciated. The six-episode emotional tug-of-war? Not so much. 🙄❤️
