My Review ❤️
Okay, I finished Love in Pavilion, gave it a 3.5/5, and then had to double-check the ending because I couldn't remember exactly what happened. 😂
What I did remember was that I didn't think it was a happy ending.
And I was right. 😭
This is the story of Dongfang Huaizhu and Wangquan Hongye, two powerful figures caught in the conflict between humans, demons, and dangerous forces threatening their world.
Their relationship develops alongside family politics, supernatural conflicts, sacrifices, and some very unfortunate circumstances.
And despite everything they go through, getting married and having a child doesn't guarantee them a happy ending.
Apparently, even marriage and a baby aren't enough to protect a C-drama couple from tragedy. 🤦♀️

Should You Watch Love in Pavilion?
This one is better suited to viewers who enjoy fantasy romance mixed with battles, sacrifice, and tragic love stories.
Its biggest romantic strength is the couple's enduring devotion. Its biggest drawback for happy-ending romance fans is pretty obvious: the heroine dies, and there is no romantic reunion.
At 3.5/5, this is a completed watch, but definitely not one to pick if you're specifically looking for a satisfying romantic happy ending.
Does Love in Pavilion Have a Happy Ending?
No. Tragic Ending. Huaizhu dies in Episode 36 after the birth of their son. Hongye survives and raises him; the main couple are not together at the end.
No, and the finale is pretty definitive about it.
In Episode 36, Huaizhu gives birth to their son, Wangquan Fugui.
Unfortunately, she has been hiding the extent of her injuries after Jin Renfeng attacked her.
She initially survives the delivery, but her condition deteriorates.
Hongye uses his spiritual energy to temporarily restore her consciousness.
Huaizhu spends her final moments with him, asking him to allow their son to choose his own future.
She dies in Hongye's arms.
Hongye continues living, raising their son and working toward restoring peace between humans and demons.
Ending classification: Tragic Ending.
The couple remains devoted to each other until death. There is no divorce or final romantic rejection, but there is no happily-ever-after reunion either.
Do They Break Up?
No formal romantic breakup. Their devotion continues through supernatural conflict and external obstacles; their final separation is permanent because Huaizhu dies.
No formal breakup is established.
They experience misunderstandings, supernatural interference, dangerous missions, and circumstances that keep them apart.
These conflicts are not the same as ending an established romantic relationship.
Their final separation is permanent because Huaizhu dies.

I remembered this wasn't a happy ending, but I needed to double-check what actually happened.
Well, mystery solved. They get married, have a baby, and Huaizhu dies. 😭
Love in Pavilion is a tragic romance, not a happy-ending romance.
And that is one distinction my Ending Finder absolutely needs to get right.
