👀 Should You Watch It?
Yes, if you enjoy mysteries, martial arts, complicated friendships, and a good story.
The biggest strength is the mystery and the relationships among the three male leads.
The biggest drawback for romance fans is simple: there isn't a proper central love story.
I still give this one 4/5, because a drama doesn't necessarily need romance to tell a good story.
🌸 My Review: Where Is the Romance? Oh, We're Solving Crimes Instead. 😂
Mysterious Lotus Casebook is not a romance, but the story is good!
And that is pretty much my verdict.
I'm usually looking for romance, chemistry, kissing, and actual relationship development. This drama really isn't interested in giving me those things.
Instead, it focuses on mysteries, martial arts, hidden identities, and friendships.
But a good story is still a good story, and this one gets 4/5 from me.
📖 What Is Mysterious Lotus Casebook About?
Li Xiangyi (Cheng Yi) was once one of the most formidable martial artists in the martial arts world.
After a devastating battle, he disappears and is presumed dead.
Ten years later, he lives under a new identity: Li Lianhua, a wandering physician who would rather stay away from his former life.
Unfortunately, avoiding trouble becomes difficult when he crosses paths with Fang Duobing (Joseph Zeng), an aspiring martial artist, and Di Feisheng (Xiao Shunyao), his former rival.
Together, their investigations uncover murders, conspiracies, and secrets connected to Li Lianhua's past.
The story mixes individual mysteries with a much larger investigation into what really happened ten years earlier.
🤝 The Three Male Leads Are the Heart of the Story
The central relationships are not romantic.
- Li Lianhua: A former martial arts legend trying to leave his old identity behind.
- Fang Duobing: An enthusiastic young investigator who becomes closely connected to Li Lianhua.
- Di Feisheng: Li Xiangyi's formidable former rival, whose relationship with him gradually changes.
Their shifting loyalties, rivalry, friendship, and shared investigations provide the emotional foundation of the series.
That is where the relationship development happens, rather than through a traditional romantic couple.
Do They Break Up?
Yes, in the backstory. Li Xiangyi and Qiao Wanmian were previously lovers, and their relationship ended before the present-day storyline. They do not resume their relationship.
There is some romantic history, but it isn't the main storyline.
Li Xiangyi and Qiao Wanmian were romantically involved before his disappearance.
Their relationship ended after she wrote him a breakup letter, revealed through flashbacks.
Ten years later, she has attempted to move on with Xiao Zijin, and they prepare to marry. However, their relationship deteriorates, and the wedding plans ultimately fall apart.
Li Lianhua also receives romantic attention from Su Xiaoyong, but he does not enter a relationship with her.
So technically, romance exists in this story. It just isn't the kind of romance that drives the drama.
No established new couple. No major kissing storyline. No romantic happily-ever-after.
Does Mysterious Lotus Casebook Have a Happy Ending?
Ambiguous/Open. Li Lianhua's ultimate survival is unresolved. There is no established central romantic couple or confirmed romantic happy ending.
Ending classification: Ambiguous/Open Ending.
Major spoilers ahead.
Li Lianhua's physical condition has been deteriorating because of the Bicha poison.
Near the finale, he gives away the Wangchuan flower that might have saved his life.
He later breaks his sword, withdraws from the martial arts world, and disappears.
His friends receive a farewell letter rather than the reunion they hoped for.
The special episode offers an additional glimpse of Li Lianhua near the sea. However, it never definitively establishes whether he survived, recovered, or is being seen symbolically.
Some viewers interpret the ending as hopeful. Others believe it implies his death.
The drama does not explicitly confirm either interpretation.
There is also no romantic reunion or final couple status to celebrate.
For the Ending Finder, this belongs under Ambiguous/Open, not confirmed Happy Ending.

⭐ My Final Rating: 4/5
Mysterious Lotus Casebook is proof that I can enjoy a Chinese drama without a central romance when the story is good enough.
It isn't going to give me romantic relationship milestones, kissing scenes, or a happily married couple.
What it offers instead is a wuxia mystery with investigations, secrets, and meaningful friendships.
Not romance, but the story is good.
Final Rating: 4/5 ⭐ — Finished
