The mysteries aren't over yet! Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty is officially heading into another chapter, and the familiar investigative team is coming along for the ride.
On October 25, 2026, Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty: Shu Road (唐朝诡事录之蜀道) officially began filming in Jiange County, Guangyuan, Sichuan Province. The production launched at Cuiyun Corridor along the historic Shu Road, marking another major milestone for iQIYI's popular historical mystery franchise.
And yes, the original cast is returning!
Yang Xuwen and Yang Zhigang Return to Solve New Mysteries
Yang Xuwen (杨旭文) returns as Lu Lingfeng, alongside Yang Zhigang (杨志刚) as Su Wuming.
The returning ensemble also includes:
- Gao Siwen (郜思雯) as Pei Xijun
- Chen Chuang (陈创) as Fei Jishi
- Sun Xuening (孙雪宁) as Chu Yingtao
Yue Lina and Liu Zhiyang are also among the returning cast members.
For a franchise built around its investigative team, preserving the core ensemble is welcome news. The relationships between these characters have become an important part of the series, alongside its supernatural mysteries and historical investigations.

According to production information reported by Chuanguan News, the drama will incorporate historically significant locations, including Jianmen Pass and Cuiyun Corridor.
The creative team has also teased mysterious creatures, historical intrigue, and developments connected to the political upheavals of the Tang dynasty.
In other words, the team isn't simply getting a change of scenery. The new setting is expected to play an important role in the mysteries themselves.
Production Team and Episode Count
The new installment is produced by iQIYI, with Changxin Media serving as co-producer.
The announced creative team includes:
- Guo Jingyu: Supervising producer and head writer
- Wei Fenghua: Screenwriter
- Ju Xingmao and Guo Shimin: Directors
The production has been reported as a 40-episode historical mystery drama.
Its filming location also carries cultural significance. The production is working with Sichuan's distinctive geography and historical heritage rather than relying exclusively on studio environments.
When Will Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty: Shu Road Premiere?
An official premiere date has not been announced.
According to Chuanguan News, the production is targeting completion of filming during the first half of 2027, with hopes of reaching audiences during the second half of that year.
However, 2027 remains a production target, not a confirmed premiere date. The final streaming schedule will depend on production, post-production, and official distribution announcements.
