👑 Should You Watch Tigers Sniff the Rose?

My early impression: 4/5 so far!

If you enjoyed seeing Meng Ziyi and Li Yunrui together in Blossom, this reunion is worth keeping on your radar.

Just don't expect Li Yunrui to walk in behaving like General Song Mo again. 😂

This time, he's playing a very different kind of male lead.

Instead of a commanding military general, we've got a gentle, cautious scholar facing a princess who is VERY accustomed to being obeyed.

The initial appeal is the contrast between their personalities and social positions, with political ambition complicating a developing romance.

The main drawback for anyone looking for immediate romantic payoff is that the show is still establishing the relationship. The first proper kiss, official-couple timing, long-term stability, and ending all need further verification.

This is an early rating, not my final recommendation.

🌸 My First Impressions: WHERE DID GENERAL SONG MO GO?! 😭😂

Okay, can we talk about Li Yunrui?!

Because WHAT happened to our intimidating general from Blossom?!

In Blossom, he played Song Mo, a commanding general who could practically intimidate an entire room without saying anything.

Now he's Yan Shang, a poor scholar who is so timid and cautious around the princess that I almost feel like I'm watching a completely different man. 😂

The contrast is HUGE.

Song Mo looked like he could command an entire army.

Yan Shang looks like he's carefully calculating whether disagreeing with the princess is worth the consequences.

And yes, I know they're completely different characters.

But seeing Li Yunrui switch from that commanding military presence to a reserved scholar is definitely something!

Of course, Li Yunrui is my husband, so I like him in anything! ❤️😂

He can play a powerful general, an ordinary scholar, or a man who spends half his time looking worried about offending royalty.

I'm still going to watch him.

That doesn't mean the drama automatically gets five stars, though!

I'm giving Tigers Sniff the Rose a provisional 4/5, and we'll see how the story develops.

Also, confession time: I was fighting sleep while watching some of these early episodes and had to refresh my memory afterward. 😭

That's a consequence of my questionable late-night viewing habits, not a complaint about the drama itself.

📖 What's Tigers Sniff the Rose About?

The story follows Mu Wanyao, Princess Danyang, a strong-willed royal woman who refuses to let other people determine her future.

After traveling to honor her deceased mother, she encounters Yan Shang when a carriage problem interrupts her journey through the mountains.

Yan Shang comes from a humble family, but he possesses the intelligence and ambition needed to navigate a world where powerful families control opportunities.

Their circumstances couldn't be more different.

She's a princess with political influence and the authority to command almost anyone around her.

He's a scholar with very little status, hoping his abilities will eventually allow him to enter the political establishment.

As their lives become connected, the story expands into questions of personal freedom, ambition, political loyalty, and the sacrifices people make to pursue their goals.

The official premise promises that the princess and scholar will eventually become important allies in confronting corruption and instability.

For now, I'm watching how their relationship begins.

👑 Mu Wanyao: A Princess Who Knows She's in Charge

Meng Ziyi plays Mu Wanyao, and this is not a heroine who enters the story pretending she has no authority.

She's royal, she knows it, and she expects people to follow her instructions.

Her early interactions with Yan Shang make that power difference particularly obvious.

At the beginning, she can be demanding and intimidating. She's not immediately presented as a gentle, endlessly accommodating princess.

But there's more behind that strong exterior.

Her mother's death, her difficult experiences, and the pressures of royal life provide important context for why she protects her position so fiercely.

A strong personality doesn't automatically guarantee a consistently intelligent heroine, though.

I still want to see how she handles the bigger political conflicts before making a final judgment about her competence.

❤️ Yan Shang: The Timid Scholar With a Sharp Mind

Li Yunrui plays Yan Shang, a brilliant young man from an ordinary family.

And this role is such a contrast to Song Mo!

Yan Shang initially approaches the princess with considerable caution. He understands that one careless decision can carry consequences for someone without money or political protection.

But his reserved manner doesn't mean he's unintelligent.

The official storyline establishes him as an exceptionally capable strategist with ambitions beyond his current position.

That's an important distinction.

He's timid in his interactions with authority, but the story is positioning him as someone whose intellectual ability could eventually change his circumstances.

I'm curious how that contrast develops once he gains more influence.

And can we appreciate Li Yunrui giving us a completely different male lead this time?

I already know which actor I'm rooting for. 😂❤️

💕 The Romance: A Princess and Her Cautious Scholar

The central relationship begins with an obvious imbalance in status.

Mu Wanyao has wealth, royal authority, and influence.

Yan Shang has intelligence and ambition, but none of the political advantages she enjoys.

Their early interactions involve suspicion, careful negotiation, and an attraction that has not yet matured into an official relationship.

Their dangerous journey also creates opportunities for them to depend on each other.

Yan Shang's rescue of the princess marks an important step in their developing trust.

What makes the setup different from Blossom is the reversal of the familiar romantic power dynamic.

Song Mo was a military commander with enormous presence.

Yan Shang begins as the socially vulnerable one, while the princess has the obvious authority.

But the bigger romance questions are still unanswered.

Will Yan Shang become more confident around her?

Will their relationship eventually feel equal?

And how much genuine affection will the drama deliver before the finale?

We'll have to keep watching.

🏯 Political Intrigue and Supporting Characters

This isn't simply a romance between a princess and a handsome scholar.

Yan Shang's ambitions connect their story to the court, where advancement depends on far more than academic talent.

Mu Wanyao's royal identity also means her personal choices can have political consequences.

The supporting cast includes Liu Wenji, portrayed by Quan Yilun, and Chunhua, portrayed by Shen Jiayu.

Both are part of the early character network surrounding the leads.

Their broader storylines and any romantic milestones deserve a separate assessment once more complete episodes are available.

For now, the main attraction is seeing how the princess and Yan Shang navigate their very different worlds.

⏱️ Pacing, Visuals, and Music

The opening establishes the difference in the leads' social positions and introduces the political world that will eventually shape their relationship.

The story has a long way to go across its planned 40 episodes.

I am not making a final judgment about the pacing, soundtrack, or overall production consistency after such a small portion of the series.

Those impressions will be updated as I watch more.

6. 🚩 ML Red Flag

Yan Shang begins as reserved and cautious rather than openly domineering. It's too early for a definitive red-flag assessment.

Mu Wanyao is assertive, politically aware, and accustomed to wielding authority. Her long-term strategic competence remains to be assessed.

⭐ My Rating: 4/5 — Provisional

So far, I'm giving Tigers Sniff the Rose 4/5.

It's still very early, and my opinion may change as the political conflicts and relationship develop.

What I can definitely say is that watching Li Yunrui play such a timid, cautious scholar after his commanding performance as General Song Mo in Blossom is quite the contrast.

But he's my husband, and I like him in anything. 😂❤️

Now let's see what happens when our shy scholar has to navigate the royal court—and a princess who doesn't seem particularly interested in being told no!

Current Rating: 4/5 — Provisional
