My Review — 3.5/5

She's Wild Fire has an interesting story, a strong female lead, a devoted male lead, and a secret-child storyline. It also has a romance that barely gets started before the drama decides to separate its main couple for FIVE YEARS.

Excuse me?! 😭

My biggest complaint is that the story is interesting but not properly executed.

I like the concept. A woman gets a second chance at life, returns to the 1990s, and uses her knowledge and determination to build a future for herself.

Instead of sitting around waiting for a man to rescue her, she's making investments, building a business, and taking control of her life.

Now THAT is the kind of female lead I like! ❤️

Unfortunately, although I enjoyed the premise and appreciated the devoted male lead, some of the storytelling decisions prevented this from becoming a higher-rated drama for me.

Should You Watch She's Wild Fire?

Yes, if you enjoy capable female leads, devoted male leads, rebirth stories, entrepreneurship, and secret-child romances.

The biggest strengths are Nanfeng's independence and Chunsheng's devotion.

The biggest weakness is the execution of the romantic storyline, particularly the early breakup and the five-year separation.

I recommend it with reservations.

My rating: 3.5/5.

Xie Nanfeng: This Woman Has a Plan!

One of my favorite things about this drama is Nanfeng's determination to create a better life.

After experiencing a terrible previous life, she gets another chance in 1991 Shenzhen.

And she's not wasting it!

Nanfeng recognizes opportunities, makes investments, and works toward financial independence.

She's not simply the female lead who happens to fall in love with a wealthy businessman. She has her own ambitions.

Even after leaving Chunsheng, she doesn't spend five years sitting around waiting for him.

She raises their son and builds wealth.

A female lead who can raise a child, manage investments, and plan her future? Yes, please!

I appreciate that the story allows her to pursue success without presenting romance as the only thing that gives her life meaning.

Chu Chunsheng: Devoted, Protective, and Occasionally Clueless 😂

Now, Chunsheng has the kind of devotion I usually enjoy in a male lead.

He's protective, supportive, and willing to take care of Nanfeng.

And can we talk about the little things?

This man actually takes off her shoes and puts her slippers on for her.

Sir! 😭❤️

It's these small acts of affection that make a devoted male lead appealing to me.

He doesn't always need to make some enormous dramatic sacrifice. Sometimes I just want to see a man who genuinely enjoys taking care of the woman he loves.

But his devotion doesn't mean he makes perfect decisions.

Which brings me to the Episode 5 disaster.

The Episode 5 Breakup: Good Intentions, Bad Strategy

Nanfeng's parents repeatedly harass her for money.

Chunsheng decides to help by secretly paying them off.

I understand why he does it. He's trying to protect her from people who keep exploiting her.

But there's a major problem with his solution.

Paying people who harass someone for money doesn't necessarily make them stop. It can encourage them to demand even more.

And that's exactly what Nanfeng is worried about.

She doesn't want him rewarding her parents' behavior.

For once, the conflict isn't entirely based on a ridiculously stupid misunderstanding. I can understand both sides.

He wants to help.

She wants the exploitation to stop permanently.

Unfortunately, instead of resolving this through better communication, the relationship falls apart.

And here's the part that really frustrates me.

They were already together by Episode 4!

Episode 4: We're together!

Episode 5: We're breaking up!

WHY?! 😭🤦‍♀️

We barely had time to enjoy them as a couple.

Five Years Apart? Seriously?!

Nanfeng leaves in 1991.

Then the story jumps to 1996.

FIVE YEARS.

Not five days.

Not five weeks.

Five entire years!

And when Nanfeng returns, she has their son Nannan.

I enjoy secret-child storylines, especially when the mother has spent the separation becoming independent and successful.

But I also want romantic payoff.

If a drama is going to separate its couple for such a long time, I expect a convincing reconciliation and enough time afterward to enjoy their relationship.

I don't want the reunion to feel like an obligation the writers remembered after concentrating on everything else.

The time jump creates an interesting premise, but it also takes away years that the couple could have spent building their relationship.

Nannan and the Paternity Drama

Naturally, the secret-child storyline creates another round of complications.

Chang Yongbin fabricates a paternity report in Episode 10.

By Episode 14, Nanfeng finally tells Chunsheng that Nannan is his biological son.

And honestly, I'm glad the truth comes out rather than remaining hidden until the very last episode.

But the paternity deception is another example of the drama relying on interference and unnecessary complications to create conflict.

I understand why those developments are included in the plot.

That doesn't mean I necessarily enjoyed waiting for everyone to learn the truth. 🙄

The Romance: Devotion Versus Execution

Here's what makes this drama frustrating.

The story has the ingredients for a romance I would ordinarily enjoy.

A competent female lead?

Yes.

A protective, devoted male lead?

Yes.

An established relationship before the finale?

Yes.

A secret child?

Also yes.

And yet, the structure of the romance doesn't give me the uninterrupted relationship development I would have preferred.

Chunsheng's devotion is one of the strongest romantic elements.

I like that his affection isn't limited to grand gestures. He demonstrates care through small, practical acts, too.

But the early breakup and five-year separation significantly affect the romantic experience.

I wanted more time watching them be a couple, not just watching the circumstances keeping them apart.

Attraction and mutual support are clear; the leads' relationship has warmth, though its development is interrupted.
💋 3. Kissing
A light kiss appears in Episode 2, a deeper kiss in Episode 4, and affectionate kissing returns around Episodes 14–15.

They share a child and have an established sexual history. Explicit on-screen intimacy was not verified.
🚩 6. ML Red Flag
Chunsheng is devoted, but secretly paying Nanfeng's exploitative parents disregards her wishes and makes the breakup understandable.
👑 7. Female Lead Competence
Strong. Nanfeng is ambitious, financially resourceful, and builds a successful business while raising her son.
⏱️ 8. Romance Timing
The couple is established by Episode 4 and breaks up in Episode 5. Nanfeng rejects an earlier proposal in Episode 9, then proposes herself in Episode 21.

They reunite, raise Nannan as a family, and marry in Episode 24. The five-year separation still reduces their time together.

⚠️ Content & Victimization Warnings

Do not exaggerate violence or imply sexual assault is depicted without verification.

Final Thoughts — Why I Gave She's Wild Fire 3.5/5

She's Wild Fire is one of those dramas where I can see the potential, which makes the frustrating parts even more frustrating.

I like the female lead's independence.

I appreciate Chunsheng's devotion.

The second-chance and secret-child storylines are interesting.

But the story is interesting without being properly executed.

The biggest issue for me is the romantic pacing.

Getting the couple together in Episode 4, breaking them up in Episode 5, and then jumping ahead five years isn't exactly my favorite way to develop a romance.

I appreciate that Nanfeng spends that time building a successful life for herself and her son. That's an important part of her character.

But I also wanted more opportunities to enjoy the relationship that the drama was asking me to root for.

Chunsheng being so attentive and devoted helps. Those little affectionate gestures are exactly what I like seeing in a male lead.

If only the story had given me more uninterrupted time with them together!

Final Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐

An interesting rebirth and entrepreneurship story with a strong heroine, a devoted male lead, and a secret-child romance. Unfortunately, the execution and lengthy separation prevent it from earning a higher rating.
