My Review ❤️

Okay, so I finished Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, gave it 3.5/5, and then apparently forgot how it ended. 😂

I had to check whether this was another drama that decided to destroy everyone's happiness in the final episode.

Thankfully, both detectives survive!

This is primarily a historical detective mystery rather than a romance.

Lu Lingfeng and Su Wuming investigate bizarre crimes, suspicious deaths, strange rumors, and seemingly supernatural events throughout the Tang Dynasty.

Their investigations lead them through conspiracies, political schemes, and mysteries that are not always what they initially appear to be.

The relationship between the two investigators is central to the story. Meanwhile, the romantic relationships develop more quietly in the background.

And apparently, solving one mystery just means finding ten more problems. 😂

Should You Watch Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty?

Best for: Viewers who enjoy historical mysteries, investigations, court conspiracies, and detective partnerships.

Biggest strength: The detective-story premise and variety of mysteries.

Biggest drawback for romance fans: Limited romantic development and no definitive relationship payoff.

My verdict: At 3.5/5, this is worth considering for mystery lovers. Just don't approach it expecting a romance-heavy historical drama.

There are romantic subplots, but the investigations are the main attraction.

Does Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty Have a Happy Ending?

Yes — Happy Ending for the Season 1 investigation and protagonists. Both detectives survive and the final conspiracy is stopped; the romantic conclusions remain unresolved.

Yes. Season 1 has a Happy Ending for its central investigation and main protagonists.

In Episode 36, Su Wuming and Lu Lingfeng expose Sha Si, the assassin behind the Cantian Tower conspiracy.

Sha Si attempts to destroy the tower, but Lu Lingfeng's preparations stop his plan.

Sha Si falls into a trap and dies.

The assassination plot is defeated, and both main protagonists survive.

Lu Lingfeng receives a promotion at the Dali Temple, where he faces an enormous backlog of criminal cases.

Su Wuming formally recognizes him as a disciple of the legendary Di Renjie, honoring his late master's wishes.

Su Wuming receives another government assignment, while Yingtao accompanies him.

The season ends with the two investigators alive and their friendship intact.

Their adventures are far from over, but the central crisis is resolved.

Ending classification: Happy Ending — Season 1.

This does not mean every romantic storyline receives a definitive conclusion.

Do Lu Lingfeng and Pei Xijun End Up Together?

Their romantic connection remains alive, but they do not marry in Season 1.

Pei Xijun's feelings become important early in the story, particularly through her attachment to a man she believes has died.

Lu Lingfeng and Pei Xijun gradually develop their connection through dangerous events and investigations.

In Episode 31, the Princess proposes arranging a marriage between Lu Lingfeng and Pei Jian's daughter.

Lu Lingfeng refuses.

However, this is not evidence that an established romantic relationship ends.

In Episode 36, Pei Jian entrusts his daughter Pei Xijun to Lu Lingfeng before leaving for another government posting.

The ending suggests that their relationship has a future, but it does not provide an actual wedding or an explicitly confirmed engagement.

Final status: Romantic connection continues; no completed marriage.

Do Su Wuming and Yingtao End Up Together?

Su Wuming and Yingtao gradually develop a personal connection.

Yingtao is a capable fighter who becomes involved in the investigation team's adventures.

By the finale, Yingtao accompanies Su Wuming to his new government assignment.

They remain together as companions, with romantic feelings suggested.

However, there is no confirmed wedding or definitive on-screen relationship declaration in Season 1.

Final status: Together as companions; romantic status not explicitly finalized.

Do They Break Up?

No confirmed formal breakup between established romantic partners. Neither principal pairing has a fully established romantic happy ending; unresolved romance does not establish No Breakup eligibility.

No confirmed formal breakup between established romantic partners.

There are conflicts, difficult circumstances, political dangers, and uncertainty about romantic futures.

Lu Lingfeng's refusal of a proposed marriage arrangement does not constitute a breakup because it does not establish that an existing relationship was formally ended.

The season also does not conclude with either central romantic pairing undergoing a verified permanent separation.

The important distinction is that an unresolved romance is not automatically a breakup.

My Final Verdict — 3.5/5 ❤️

Well, at least now I remember that the ending wasn't tragic. 😂

Both detectives survive, the final conspiracy is stopped, and there are plenty of mysteries still waiting for them.

The romance doesn't receive the kind of definitive ending I usually look for, but this is primarily a detective story anyway.

Just remember: a happy ending for the mystery doesn't automatically mean a fully resolved romantic happy ending.

Final Rating: 3.5/5

Watch Status: Finished

Ending: Happy Ending — Season 1

Main Protagonists Survive: Yes

Romantic Relationships Fully Resolved: No
