🔎 Reality Check: Trauma and Sleepwalking

What the drama shows: Wen Yifan’s sleepwalking is associated with severe stress and resurfacing trauma.

What is realistic: Sleepwalking is an NREM parasomnia. Stress, sleep loss and disrupted sleep can trigger episodes in susceptible people. Research also describes links between trauma, nightmares and disruptive nighttime behavior, but that does not establish a single cause for her symptoms.

What the drama simplifies: Trauma should not automatically be treated as the sole explanation for frequent adult sleepwalking. Evaluation may consider sleep deprivation, other sleep disorders, medicines, alcohol/substances, medical or neurological conditions and psychological stressors.

✅ Plausible, but simplified for drama.

About these assessments

My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.

A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL

My Review

Okay, I have a confession.

I remembered that I LOVED this drama.

I remembered that Sang Yan was ridiculously devoted to Wen Yifan.

And apparently my brain decided those were the only two pieces of information worth keeping. 😂😭

After going back through everything, though, I understand exactly why I gave this a 4.5/5.

❄️ The Story

Wen Yifan is a reporter who unexpectedly reunites with Sang Yan, the boy she loved back in high school.

Their history is complicated because they once cared deeply about each other, but Wen Yifan abruptly pushed him away and disappeared from his life.

Years later, they meet again.

Then circumstances basically say, you two clearly have unfinished business, and they end up becoming roommates. 😂

Except underneath the cute cohabitation and romantic tension, Wen Yifan is carrying some genuinely horrible trauma from her teenage years.

Her family failed her, an adult relative sexually preyed on her, and she learned to deal with everything by shutting people out and running whenever she felt unsafe.

So this isn't just a fluffy second-chance romance.

It's really about Wen Yifan slowly realizing that she doesn't have to handle every horrible thing alone.

And sitting patiently beside her through basically all of it is Sang Yan. ❤️

❤️ SANG YAN. THAT'S IT. THAT'S THE SECTION.

This man.

THIS MAN. 😭

Sang Yan loved Wen Yifan for years.

She broke his heart when they were young, they spent years apart, and yet somehow this man never really moved on.

And the level of detail in his devotion is what gets me.

He remembered little things she said when they were teenagers.

He kept track of her from afar.

He saved train tickets from trips connected to her and newspaper clippings of articles she had written.

Later, when they have to move, he has their new home designed to feel familiar and safe for her.

And then there is Overtime.

Wen Yifan once talked about wanting a relaxing little place where people could escape the pressure of life.

Years later?

Sang Yan owns Overtime.

Sir.

You carried one random conversation with this woman around in your brain for YEARS??? 😭❤️

I love a devoted man, and Sang Yan is basically devotion wearing a human suit.

He's protective without treating Wen Yifan like she's helpless.

He's jealous and occasionally petty because apparently perfection would have been too easy. 😂

But when the serious stuff happens, he is completely on her side.

When he finally learns what really happened to her, he does not blame her for leaving.

He doesn't treat her trauma like she's damaged.

He makes it clear that what happened was the perpetrator's shame, not hers.

YES.

THAT.

MORE OF THAT. 👏

🌸 Wen Yifan

Wen Yifan's story is much sadder than I remembered.

She isn't simply emotionally distant because the drama needed an angsty female lead.

She had basically trained herself to survive by becoming independent, quiet, and difficult to reach.

Her own mother repeatedly failed to protect her when she desperately needed an adult on her side.

After the assault attempt during high school, she eventually changed her university plans and disappeared rather than letting Sang Yan see how badly her life had fallen apart.

Then history repeats itself later.

That part frustrated me on paper because GIRL PLEASE TALK TO THE MAN WHO WOULD WALK THROUGH FIRE FOR YOU. 😭

But her behavior actually comes from somewhere.

This isn't some stupid “I saw him standing beside another woman so obviously we're finished forever” misunderstanding.

She genuinely believes that disappearing is how she protects the people she loves.

It's unhealthy, but it makes sense for her character.

And eventually she stops running, confronts what happened to her, returns to journalism, and starts building a life that actually belongs to her.

I liked that her healing wasn't simply:

Step 1: Get boyfriend. Step 2: Trauma magically deleted. THE END.

Sang Yan supports her, but Wen Yifan still has to decide for herself that she wants to stop hiding.

🔥 The Chemistry & Kissing

This romance is a slow burn, but once these two finally get there, we actually get a relationship.

THANK YOU. 😂

Wen Yifan decides to actively pursue him around Episode 16.

Around Episode 18, they finally acknowledge that they still love each other and become boyfriend and girlfriend.

There is a quick kiss shortly afterward, followed by a much more romantic Ferris-wheel kiss.

And then we finally start getting proper established-couple affection.

Sang Yan is NOT interested in surviving thirty episodes just to give us one ceremonial dead-fish kiss at the end. 😂🔥

Blessings. 🙏😂

There are several more kisses and affectionate moments afterward, especially toward the end.

So yes, the slow burn eventually pays us back.

😭 About That Separation...

Unfortunately, yes.

There is a real separation.

After they've already become an official couple, Wen Yifan leaves for Hong Kong because her abuser has resurfaced and she believes leaving is the only way to keep Sang Yan safe.

She stays away for approximately six months.

Sang Yan spends those months trying to find her.

He eventually learns she's in Hong Kong, goes looking for her, and they properly reunite.

Normally, SIX MONTHS would have me outside the screen with a pitchfork. 🙄😂

But my 4.5/5 tells me this drama clearly survived it.

And I think the difference is that the separation is directly connected to Wen Yifan's established trauma and survival behavior rather than some random misunderstanding manufactured because the writers suddenly realized there were episodes left.

Once they reunite and she finally tells him the truth, there isn't another giant breakup.

THANK GOD.

🥹 The Little Things

Sang Yan's love is really built through little acts.

It's not just dramatic declarations.

He remembers.

He notices.

He waits.

He searches.

He protects her without making her feel incapable.

He wants her dreams to matter.

He wants her to feel safe.

And I think that's probably what stuck with me even after I forgot half the actual plot.

I forgot events.

I did not forget how much that man loved her. 😭❤️

That probably says everything.

💍 The Ending

CLEAR HAPPY ENDING.

No reincarnation.

No ambiguous stare across a mountain.

No “perhaps someday our souls shall meet again.”

NO.

Sang Yan proposes. 😂❤️

Near the end, he takes Wen Yifan back to their old school and creates a ridiculously sentimental proposal involving memories and messages from people who witnessed their relationship.

And she accepts.

The drama ends with Sang Yan and Wen Yifan together, happy, in love, and ENGAGED.

We don't actually get the wedding, which I would've happily taken because GIVE ME EVERYTHING, but their future together is completely clear.

Ending Status: ❤️ HAPPY ENDING

Main couple ends together: YES Engaged: YES Wedding shown: No Ambiguous: Absolutely not.
