Should You Watch It?

If you enjoy ambitious female leads, historical political struggles, jealous suitors, and complicated romance, this might work for you.

If you're looking for a stable romantic relationship without a man constantly competing for the female lead's attention? You have been warned. 😂

My verdict: 3/5. The romantic competition is exactly what made me question this drama.

My Review: Love Triangle??? 🙄

LOVE TRIANGLE???

Seriously, what is it with these men fighting over Fan Yun? 😭

We have Qi Zheng, our male lead, and then Zheng Shi, also known as Lou Qiyan, who apparently didn't receive the memo that being someone's romantic rival does not mean you need to keep pursuing her indefinitely.

And the competition doesn't just disappear after a few episodes. Oh no. It follows us practically all the way to the end!

What begins as romantic rivalry becomes considerably darker when Zheng Shi refuses to accept Fan Yun's feelings for Qi Zheng.

At some point, this stops being a cute case of two men liking the same woman and becomes a serious problem with respecting her decisions.

I can understand using romantic competition to create tension. But when an ambitious woman's story keeps circling back to men competing for her attention, I start questioning whether all that drama is necessary.

The political and social reform storyline has enough material to stand on its own.

The Story and the Main Couple

Fan Yun is a fallen noblewoman who wants to improve society and create opportunities for ordinary people, especially women.

She enters a marriage with Qi Zheng, a city ruler who hides his political intelligence behind a seemingly carefree personality.

Their initial relationship is transactional, but working together gradually helps them develop trust and affection.

Meanwhile, Zheng Shi becomes another important man in Fan Yun's life, with feelings that are definitely not reciprocated the way he wants.

Does The Legend of Rosy Clouds Have a Breakup?

This part needs an explanation.

Fan Yun and Qi Zheng marry in Episode 1, but their marriage is initially an arrangement rather than an established love relationship.

Around Episodes 9–10, Qi Zheng deliberately helps arrange their divorce so Fan Yun can pursue her ambitions.

They stage arguments to make the divorce possible.

There's subsequently a one-year time jump in Episode 11, although their romantic connection continues afterward.

My classification: Legal divorce — Yes. Established romantic breakup — No.

Those are two different things, and the distinction matters!

Do They Break Up?

No established romantic breakup is confirmed. Their initial arranged marriage does end in divorce in Episodes 10–11, followed by a one-year time jump. Legal divorce and an established romantic breakup are different here; the leads reunite romantically but are not confirmed remarried.

❤️ Relationship Timeline

  1. Episode 1: Fan Yun and Qi Zheng marry through an arrangement.
  2. Episodes 2–8: Attraction and attachment gradually develop. Zheng Shi enters the romantic competition.
  3. Episode 9: Qi Zheng confesses his feelings and agrees to help Fan Yun obtain her freedom.
  4. Episodes 10–11: Their arranged marriage ends in divorce.
  5. Episode 11: Qi Zheng kisses Fan Yun before they part. The story jumps forward one year.
  6. Episode 23: They argue but reconcile.
  7. Episode 24: They acknowledge their feelings and kiss during a dangerous confrontation.
  8. Episode 30: Qi Zheng raises the subject of marriage.
  9. Episode 32: Fan Yun prepares romantic commitment tea for Qi Zheng, confirming her choice.
  10. Episodes 33–36: Zheng Shi's pursuit escalates into coercion and an attempted forced marriage.
  11. Episode 36: Fan Yun and Qi Zheng reunite and share a romantic kiss.

Does The Legend of Rosy Clouds Have a Happy Ending?

Yes — Fan Yun and Qi Zheng end up together.

However, the finale takes a dark turn.

Zheng Shi kidnaps Fan Yun and attempts to force her into marriage. She refuses because she loves Qi Zheng.

Zheng Shi ultimately falls to his death from a cliff. It is a tragic conclusion to his obsessive pursuit.

Fan Yun remains temporarily in Jing City to help restore order, while Qi Zheng waits for her return.

Their final reunion includes an embrace and a kiss.

Ending Classification: Happy Ending for the main couple, with a tragic secondary-character storyline.

They are together romantically, but there is no confirmed remarriage.

Final Thoughts

3/5 ⭐

I finished all 36 episodes, and the question I keep coming back to is:

LOVE TRIANGLE??? 😭😂

Sometimes a romance does not need another man refusing to accept that the female lead has already made her choice.

The main couple gets their happy ending, but getting there involves an awful lot of romantic competition.

And apparently, the love triangle couldn't just leave quietly. It needed an entire dramatic finale. 🤦‍♀️
