Should You Watch It?
This is better for viewers who want revenge, elaborate scams, identity games, and two morally complicated leads than for anyone looking for a romance-heavy drama. The strongest romantic element is the unresolved chemistry between two former spouses who still have feelings buried under betrayal. The biggest drawback is the payoff: very little physical romance and no final reunion.
🌸 My Review
Well… this man got honey-trapped into an entire marriage. 😭😂
A Prophet is basically scammers fighting scammers while everybody lies about who they are, what they want, who they work for, and probably what they had for breakfast.
Eight years before the main story, Wang Jiaxian falls for opera actress Jiang Feiyan. They fall in love and marry.
Cute, right?
NO. 😂
Jiang Feiyan was part of a deliberate beauty/honey-trap scheme run through the Tianxiang Sect. Their romance and marriage are used to help destroy Wang Jiaxian’s family and fortune. The ugly complication is that Jiang Feiyan’s feelings were not completely fake.
Eight years later, Wang Jiaxian is operating under the identity Shangguan Chengming and infiltrating the same criminal world that ruined him. Then he runs into his WIFE again.
So now we basically have:
“I loved you.”
“You ruined my life.”
“We were married.”
“Anyway, want to scam these people together?” 😭
The scam/revenge setup is honestly more interesting than the romance. Everybody is playing somebody else, identities keep shifting, and both leads are smart enough to participate in the schemes instead of standing around waiting for the plot to happen.
Jiang Feiyan is especially fun because she is competent, manipulative, strategic, and complicated. She was raised inside this criminal system and did terrible things, but she is also trying to claw her way out of it.
The romance is definitely secondary, though.
And after giving Li Xian and Li Yitong all that married-enemies tension, resentment, guilt, attraction and unfinished business, what do we get?
A CHEEK KISS. 😭🤦♀️
Episode 12 gives them the drama’s notable kiss scene and Shangguan Chengming wanting to take Jiang Feiyan away, but they never truly rebuild an official romantic relationship.
That is criminal behavior of an entirely different kind.
Does A Prophet Have a Happy Ending?
No. I classify it as a Bittersweet Ending.
The revenge/anti-scam storyline succeeds. The Tianxiang Sect is dismantled, major wrongdoers are exposed or punished, and Wang Jiaxian and Jiang Feiyan both survive.
But the MAIN COUPLE does not end up together.
After completing the final scheme, they go their separate ways. About six months later, Wang Jiaxian has reclaimed his real name and returned home. He briefly crosses paths with Jiang Feiyan, but there is no romantic reunion.
The drama then drops one final identity twist when another man appears claiming to be the real Shangguan Chengming.
So:
- alive? Yes
- feelings still there? Yes
- together? NO. 🙄
For me, that absolutely affects the payoff.
Do Wang Jiaxian and Jiang Feiyan End Up Together?
No. Both survive, but they go their separate ways in Episode 24. Crossing paths about six months later is not a romantic reunion.
Is There a Breakup in A Prophet?
Yes. Their established relationship/marriage collapses after the honey-trap betrayal. The approximately eight-year separation follows that relationship collapse; it is not simply a temporary absence while they remain a stable couple. No formal romantic reconciliation follows.
How Much Romance Is in A Prophet?
Romance is secondary to suspense and revenge. Li Xian and Li Yitong have strong unresolved former-spouse chemistry, but physical romance is restrained. Episode 12 gives the notable cheek kiss; no satisfying proper lip-kiss payoff was verified.

💗 Shen Zhiyi’s Drama Reality Check / Drama Meter
- 💕 Romance
- Secondary. Important emotional history, but suspense/revenge is the main genre.
- 🔥 Chemistry
- Strong. Very good “I might kiss you or ruin your life” energy. 😂
- 💋 Kissing
- Low. Episode 12 gives the notable cheek kiss; no satisfying proper lip-kiss payoff verified.
- 🤗 Skinship
- Low. Mostly restrained closeness, protection and tension.
- 🌶️ Spiciness / Adult Intimacy
- Essentially none.
- 🚩 ML Red Flag
- Morally gray and manipulative in his revenge schemes, but not primarily romance-toxic.
- 👑 Female Lead Competence
- High. Skilled con artist, actress and strategist who actively creates and reverses schemes.
- ⏱️ Romance Timing
- The established romance/marriage happened before the main timeline. Present-day reconciliation never becomes official.
- ❤️🔥 Relationship Payoff
- Low. Strong tension, very little physical romance, no final reunion.
- 💔 Breakup
- Yes. Their established relationship/marriage collapses after the honey-trap betrayal.
- ⏳ Separation / Conflict
- Major. About eight years plus extensive distrust and revenge conflict.
- 💍 Final Relationship Status
- Both alive, not together.
- 📖 Plot
- Revenge, confidence schemes, false identities, anti-fraud battles and constant reversals.
- 🐾 Animal Harm
- No notable dog/cat harm verified.
⭐ 3/5 — Finished
The scammers-vs-scammers concept is stronger than the romance payoff, Jiang Feiyan is actually a fun capable FL, and the schemes give the story plenty of twists.
But you cannot give me Li Xian + Li Yitong + married enemies with eight years of unresolved feelings and then hand me ONE CHEEK KISS AND SEND THEM HOME SEPARATELY. 😭🤦♀️
