😭 SO JI-SUB IS PLAYING DADS NOW?!
I need everyone to understand that So Ji-sub is literally one of my favorite Korean actors, so seeing him show up as somebody’s DAD gave me a small existential crisis. 😭😂
This is one of the men I still mentally associate with the early Hallyu era. I watched him in What Happened in Bali with Jo In-sung. I remember I’m Sorry, I Love You and The Master’s Sun. In my head, he is permanently filed under beautiful tortured K-drama leading man.
And now I’m watching him worry about his teenage daughter.
EXCUSE ME???
WHEN DID WE GET HERE?! 😭
At least they did Dad So Ji-sub correctly. They didn’t turn him into some boring suburban father. Nope. He is a former covert operative who can destroy everybody in the building if somebody touches his child.
Fine. I can work with Dad So Ji-sub. 😂❤️
📖 Plot
Manager Kim looks like an ordinary middle-aged bank employee raising his teenage daughter, Min-ji, alone after his wife’s death.
Except Dad left out one small detail.
He used to be Agent 66, a highly dangerous covert operative.
When Min-ji disappears after dealing with serious school bullying, mild-mannered Manager Kim disappears right along with her.
Agent Kim is back.
Kidnapping this particular man’s daughter was a spectacularly bad career decision. 😂
👨👧 Manager Kim
Obviously, So Ji-sub was the biggest attraction for me.
He has that quiet, controlled presence where he doesn’t have to scream to convince you somebody is about to have a very bad day.
Kim spent years deliberately looking harmless because all he wanted was to raise Min-ji and stay away from his old life.
Then somebody takes his daughter.
Retirement canceled. 😂
The story keeps coming back to the fact that he isn’t doing this to be a hero. He just wants his child home.
Once that protective-dad switch flips, GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY ELSE. 😭
👴 The Ahjussi Avengers
Kim also ends up surrounded by other extremely dangerous fathers, especially Seong Han-su and Park Jin-cheol.
Basically: the Ahjussi Avengers. 😂
These men have children, jobs and responsibilities while apparently possessing enough combat experience to overthrow a small government.
Their friendship and shared instinct to protect their families are some of the strongest parts of the drama.
🔫 Action
There is plenty of:
- Hand-to-hand fighting
- Gun violence
- Espionage
- Kidnapping
- Government conspiracy
- Secret identities
- Torture/interrogation
- People discovering the harmless dad with glasses is absolutely NOT harmless
Some of it is ridiculous.
I accepted the assignment. 😂
💕 Where Is My Romance?
There basically isn’t any.
Manager Kim’s wife died years earlier, and his emotional story revolves around his daughter.
Normally, no romance is a disadvantage with me because you all know why I’m here. 😂❤️
But this is clearly an action/family drama rather than a romance, so I can forgive it.
Mostly.
🏁 Ending — SPOILERS
Happy Ending.
And YES, Manager Kim survives.
The drama temporarily pulls the “Dad is dead” card, but his death is staged.
Agent 66 is officially declared dead so Kim and Min-ji can disappear and live under new identities. Min-ji initially believes her father really died before Kim reveals that he is alive and reunites with her.
So they did NOT make me sit through ten episodes of Dad destroying everybody just to kill him at the end. Thank you. 😂
Kim and Min-ji begin their new life together.
There is also a final setup involving another agency/mission that clearly leaves room for the story to continue.
Ending classification:
- ✅ Happy Ending
- ✅ Manager Kim alive
- ✅ Min-ji alive
- ✅ Father and daughter reunited
- ⚠️ Staged/presumed death before reunion
- 👀 Sequel/continuation setup
The final tease does not undo the happy resolution.

About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.

⭐ Final Thoughts
3.5/5
Agent Kim Reactivated was a solid action drama, and So Ji-sub absolutely carried my interest in it.
Would this compete with one of my romance-heavy 4.5/5 dramas?
Absolutely not. Where are my kisses? 😂
But for what it is—a slightly ridiculous, violent story about dangerous middle-aged dads protecting their children—it works.
The action is fun, the father-daughter relationship gives the story an emotional center, and So Ji-sub can still walk into a room looking completely calm while giving me the impression that seventeen men are about to need medical attention.
My biggest problem?
I’m still emotionally processing the fact that SO JI-SUB IS NOW THE DAD.
I watched this man in What Happened in Bali. I watched The Master’s Sun.
How did we get from tragic Hallyu leading man to:
“WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER?” 🔫👓
Time is RUDE. 😭😂
