About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.
A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
My Review
I was reluctant to watch Coroner’s Diary at first, but I am very glad I gave it a chance.
Also, this is where I met my other husband. 😂❤️
Ao Ruipeng, thank you for arriving with a good drama AND a man who respects his woman’s brain. Excellent service. 😂
The mystery comes first 🔎
This is primarily a historical mystery and forensic investigation drama. There are murders to solve, bodies to examine, political secrets to uncover, and a larger conspiracy tied to Qin Wan’s family history.
The romance matters, but it is not the main focus. If you go in expecting a romance-first drama, adjust those expectations.
Qin Wan is skilled in medicine and forensic examination, and she actually contributes to the investigations. She is not just standing beside the male lead while he explains everything to her. I liked watching her use her abilities.
Qin Wan × Yan Chi ❤️
Their dynamic as a team works extremely well. They respect each other’s abilities, build trust through solving cases together, and feel like partners.
Yan Chi is protective and devoted, but he also treats Qin Wan as someone whose work matters. He does not need her to stop being capable so he can look impressive. THANK YOU. 👏
That partnership is one of the biggest reasons the romance works for me. It develops more slowly than a romance-focused drama, but it keeps moving forward and gives us satisfying payoff.
And my favorite part? They do not break up. ❤️
There is danger, political trouble, and a brief separation when Yan Chi returns to Shuoxi for duty. But being in different places does not mean they have ended their relationship. They stay emotionally committed.
Please keep the travel arrangements out of my breakup count. 😂
The ending 💍❤️
They marry in Episode 33, so the wedding is not something the drama saves for the last thirty seconds.
By the finale, Qin Wan and Yan Chi remain married and together. Yan Chi chooses his future with Qin Wan rather than pursuing the throne.
Happy Ending. No actual breakup. A capable heroine and a couple who work well together. I was very happy with that.
Final thoughts
I am glad I watched this. The mystery and investigations carry the story, and the romance gives it something lovely alongside all those cases and political schemes.
Qin Wan and Yan Chi’s teamwork was a major highlight for me. And obviously, Ao Ruipeng was a very welcome bonus. 😂❤️

🔎 Reality Check: Historical Forensic Investigation
Qin Wan uses examinations of bodies and injuries to help work out what happened. That basic idea has a real history in China: Song Ci’s The Washing Away of Wrongs, printed in 1247, was a guide for magistrates conducting inquests. It discusses examining corpses and bones, injuries and different causes of death.
That gives the drama’s investigative premise historical grounding. It does not verify every technique shown, the certainty of every deduction, or the dramatic medical procedures. I would treat those as storytelling unless there is evidence for the specific method.

U.S. Availability / Where to Watch
Official iQIYI listing confirms 2025, 38 episodes and Li Landi/Ao Ruipeng, and advertises English subtitles. U.S. playback, complete subtitle coverage/quality, original Mandarin audio and A/V quality were not independently tested.
Sources / Viewing Scope
Finished all 38 episodes. My opinions and relationship chronology follow my viewing notes. Official highlights corroborate the romantic milestones; targeted research supports the warning box and historical forensic comparison.
