I really liked this one. ❤️
And one of the biggest reasons is very simple:
ENEMIES TO LOVERS. ACTUAL ENEMIES TO LOVERS. 😂
Not “we had an argument.”
Not “he annoyed me at work.”
Not “our families don't like each other.”
These two are literally fighting on opposite sides of a war.
Fu Yixiao shoots Feng Suige with an arrow during battle.
Then she loses her memory.
Then she ends up in the hands of the man she nearly killed.
Now THAT is how you start an enemies-to-lovers drama. 😂⚔️
The Enemies-to-Lovers Trope ❤️🔥
I love this trope when the drama actually commits to it, and Fated Hearts definitely does.
Fu Yixiao and Feng Suige don't instantly forget that they are supposed to be enemies just because the actors are attractive. 😂
They are suspicious of each other.
They have completely different loyalties.
They are both dangerous.
And neither one of them is stupid.
That last part is very important to me. 😂
Their relationship gradually moves from enemies → reluctant allies → partners → lovers, and because they spend so much time surviving and investigating things together, the romance actually feels earned.
By Episode 17, the feelings finally become mutual and explicit, and we get the confession and first kiss.
And once they become a couple?
THEY STAY A COUPLE.
Bless whoever made that decision. 😂❤️
Fu Yixiao — FINALLY, A WOMAN WHO CAN FIGHT 👑
I loved Fu Yixiao.
She is not one of those historical-drama heroines who is supposedly a legendary warrior because everyone keeps telling us she is, while every fight scene involves a man rescuing her.
No.
This woman can actually fight.
She is an elite archer, a military commander, intelligent, decisive, and extremely capable.
And I especially loved that the drama never had to make Feng Suige weaker just so she could look strong.
They are BOTH capable.
They fight together.
They protect each other.
They rescue each other.
That is exactly the kind of power-couple dynamic I like. ❤️⚔️
Feng Suige
Feng Suige is also extremely capable, strategic, and dangerous.
So when these two start working together, it is very believable that everybody else should probably be concerned. 😂
Once he falls for Yixiao, he becomes extremely protective and devoted to her.
And I liked that he respects what she can do.
He doesn't spend the entire drama going:
“You are a woman. Stay here while I handle everything.”
Sir, she can shoot people from across a battlefield. Let her work. 😂
One major warning, though: early in the drama, when they are still genuine enemies, Feng Suige is VERY much a red flag.
He takes Yixiao prisoner and tortures her during interrogation, including whipping and water torture.
So this is not one of those cute “enemies” romances where the worst thing he does is glare at her.
The beginning is rough.
Thankfully, their relationship changes drastically once they actually begin trusting one another.
THE ACTING 👏
I loved the acting.
Li Qin completely sold Fu Yixiao for me.
She has the presence needed for this kind of character. She can look calm, calculating, dangerous, hurt, angry, or completely in control without overdoing it.
And Chen Zheyuan was really good as Feng Suige too.
Their scenes work because both characters have strong personalities.
Neither one feels like they are simply standing there waiting for the other person to carry the scene.
Their confrontations have tension.
Their softer scenes feel different from their enemy scenes.
And once the romance develops, I believed the shift.
The Chemistry ❤️🔥
The chemistry worked for me.
Part of it comes from the fact that these two spend so much time functioning as equals.
They aren't just romantically attracted to each other.
They actually respect each other.
They trust each other in dangerous situations.
They understand how the other person thinks.
That makes the romance feel much stronger than a drama where the entire relationship is just staring, jealousy, and accidentally falling into each other's arms seventeen times. 😂
There are multiple kisses after they get together, and the relationship eventually includes more adult intimacy as well.
So thankfully the drama does not spend 38 episodes building romance only to give us one dead-fish kiss in the finale. 😭
NO BREAKUP 🎉🎉🎉
Most importantly:
THERE IS NO ACTUAL BREAKUP.
I had to verify this because I vaguely remembered some nonsense happening toward the end. 😂
And yes, something DOES happen.
But it is not a breakup.
Around Episode 31, Feng Suige suffers a very convenient case of selective amnesia and temporarily loses his loving memories of Yixiao.
Basically his brain goes:
Girlfriend? Never heard of her. That woman is my enemy. 😐
OH COME ON. 😭
He becomes hostile toward her because the memories he retains belong to the earlier period when they were enemies.
But Yixiao does not leave him.
She knows what happened.
She stays.
And by Episode 32, his memories return.
So this is a brief amnesia-driven conflict, not a romantic breakup and not one of those six-episode “I no longer trust you” separations.
I can tolerate that. 😂
I Also Loved How They Communicated
Once Yixiao and Suige genuinely trust each other, their relationship is surprisingly stable.
There isn't constant:
“I saw something suspicious and instead of asking you about it, I will now disappear for six episodes.”
There isn't repeated hot-and-cold behavior.
There isn't a new relationship crisis every three episodes.
Most of their major problems come from war, conspiracies, assassinations, family problems, attempted coups, people trying to murder them...
You know.
Normal historical C-drama relationship problems. 😂
The Near-Death Nonsense 😭
The drama does throw in another major complication around Episode 28 when Feng Suige is brutally attacked and everyone believes he has been killed.
Yixiao literally finds his body and gets him medical help after discovering that he is still barely alive.
Again:
Not a breakup.
It is a near-death/presumed-death plot.
And because apparently these two hadn't suffered enough already, this eventually leads into the amnesia situation.
Sir.
Can we just let these people date peacefully for FIVE MINUTES? 😭
🔎 Reality Check — That Convenient Amnesia 😂
The drama's amnesia storyline is based on something that is partly real and mostly dramatized.
Retrograde amnesia can cause someone to lose memories from before a brain injury or neurological event, and some lost memories can return over time.
But Suige's version is suspiciously organized. 😂
He somehow remembers:
Fu Yixiao: battlefield enemy
while losing:
Fu Yixiao: partner, girlfriend, woman I love and have been kissing.
Then an emotional confrontation conveniently unlocks everything again.
Real memory disorders are usually much messier and less predictable than that.
So:
Possible general concept? Yes.
Would a person's brain realistically select the exact memories needed to create maximum romantic angst? Probably not. 😂
Final Thoughts
Fated Hearts gave me exactly the kind of enemies-to-lovers setup I like.
These two don't just trade insults for five episodes and suddenly decide they are enemies.
They are literally on opposing sides of a war. 😂
And then somehow they become one of the more stable couples once they actually fall in love.
I loved Fu Yixiao.
I loved that both of them could fight.
I loved that neither character had to become incompetent just to make the other one look stronger.
I loved the acting.
I loved the chemistry.
And THANK YOU for giving me no stupid breakup. 😂❤️
The Episode 31 amnesia nonsense briefly tested my patience, but it is resolved quickly, and the drama does not destroy their relationship for cheap angst.
I also appreciate that the ending clearly keeps them together.
Would I have preferred to actually SEE the giant promised wedding instead of being told it would happen after the mourning period?
Obviously. 😒😂
But the couple is alive, together, committed, and happy.
I'll take it.
⭐ Final Rating: 4/5
Finished · Happy Ending · No Breakup
Actual enemies. Actual fighters. Actual power couple. Actual romance.
Approved. 😂❤️⚔️
