About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.
A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
My Review
Hi Venus was cute, the acting was great, and Joseph Zeng and Liang Jie had really good chemistry. ❤️
Unfortunately, there were also parts where I was just… bored. 😂
That is basically my entire relationship with this drama.
The Story
Ye Shilan is a pediatrician who meets Lu Zhaoxi under some very ridiculous circumstances and initially completely misunderstands who he is.
Then she discovers that the suspicious man she has been dealing with is actually the new director of her hospital. 😭
From there we get workplace drama, misunderstandings, fake dating, family issues, hospital politics, friendship, and eventually a surprisingly healthy romance.
The premise was cute, and I enjoyed Ye Shilan and Lu Zhaoxi together.
The problem was that outside of the romance, I wasn't always that interested.
There were stretches where the plot felt like it was politely existing while I waited for the couple to come back on screen. 😂
❤️ Ye Shilan & Lu Zhaoxi
This is where the drama worked for me.
Their chemistry was great.
Joseph Zeng and Liang Jie felt very natural together, and I believed their attraction without the drama having to beat me over the head with it.
Their teasing, conversations, fake dating, jealousy, and eventual real relationship flowed naturally.
And once they finally become a couple, they actually behave like two people who like each other.
Imagine that. 😭👏
There isn't endless hot-and-cold nonsense.
There isn't a collection of stupid misunderstandings separating them every three episodes.
They communicate surprisingly well, and Lu Zhaoxi is genuinely supportive of Ye Shilan.
That alone already puts them ahead of half the C-drama population. 😂
🎭 The Acting
The acting was one of my favorite things about the drama.
Joseph Zeng was charming as Lu Zhaoxi, especially because the character could be playful and unserious without becoming annoying.
Liang Jie also did a great job as Ye Shilan, especially when the drama moved into the more emotional material involving her family.
Together?
🔥 Great chemistry.
They were easily one of the biggest reasons I kept watching.
😴 But Some Parts Were Boring
This is what kept Hi Venus at 3/5 for me.
It is only 24 episodes, but somehow there were still sections that felt slow.
Once the romance settled down, some of the hospital politics and corporate scheming just did not hold my attention.
I liked the couple.
I liked the actors.
I liked watching them together.
But did I care deeply about every workplace problem happening around them?
No. 😂
Sometimes the chemistry was doing all the heavy lifting while the plot went on lunch break.
💔 Do They Break Up?
No actual breakup.
Near the end, Ye Shilan participates in a fake breakup plan connected to Lu Zhaoxi's father and the effort to deal with the hospital conflict/corruption situation.
Lu Zhaoxi initially does not understand what is happening and gets understandably annoyed when he learns the truth. 🙄
But Ye Shilan never genuinely intends to end their relationship.
Fake breakup / staged relationship conflict — NOT a genuine breakup.
Thank you, drama. I appreciate not making me suffer unnecessarily. 😂
😊 Happy Ending
Ye Shilan and Lu Zhaoxi remain together. The staged breakup/conflict is resolved, he goes to see her, and their relationship is restored clearly on-screen. He proposes, she accepts, and they end Engaged & Together. 💍❤️
So this is not one of those “they smiled at each other from across a bridge and apparently that counts as romance” endings. 😂
The ending gives clear romantic payoff with affection and a proposal.
Final Thoughts
Hi Venus had great chemistry and great acting, and Joseph Zeng and Liang Jie worked really well together. The relationship itself was relatively healthy and stable.
However, the surrounding plot was not consistently interesting enough, and some of the hospital/workplace material became boring. The couple carried much of the drama.
⭐ Final Rating: 3/5
