The Lament of Autumn: Cast, Romance & Tentative October 11 Release
玉簟秋
The Lament of Autumn (玉簟秋) is one of the most watched upcoming Republican-era romance dramas on my radar right now.
The series stars Cheng Lei as Yu Changxuan and Xu Ruohan as Ye Pingjun. MangoTV’s official page currently lists the drama at 38 episodes and names Hunan TV and MangoTV as the broadcast platforms.
When Does The Lament of Autumn Premiere?
October 11, 2026 is the date currently circulating for The Lament of Autumn, but I am treating it as tentative until MangoTV or Hunan TV posts the final official schedule.
MangoTV’s current official series page still shows the drama as not yet airing, so the safest answer right now is: expected around October 11, subject to official confirmation.
Who Stars in The Lament of Autumn?
Cheng Lei plays Yu Changxuan, a young military commander from the Yu family.
Xu Ruohan plays Ye Pingjun, a female student who becomes entangled with him after being pulled into an attempted-assassination case.
The wider cast includes Zhang Fengyi, Xu Fan, Liu Dongqin, Guo Yuxin, Chang Long, Dai Yunfan, Ye Qing, Cai Heng, Lu Yuxiao, Wang Likun, Zhang Yunlong, Zhou Jieqiong and Jeremy Tsui.
What Is The Lament of Autumn About?
The drama is adapted from Ling Xi’s novel of the same name and is set during the Republican era in the 1920s.
According to MangoTV’s official synopsis, Yu Changxuan and Ye Pingjun meet in the middle of political turmoil and become caught in a dangerous love story shaped by war, class difference and larger national conflict.
Other published synopses describe Ye Pingjun becoming involved in an attempted assassination and making a ten-day bet with Yu Changxuan to prove her innocence. His pursuit begins with ulterior motives, but genuine feelings develop.
Is The Lament of Autumn a Romance?
Yes. Romance is a major part of the story, although it is mixed with war, family conflict and Republican-era political drama.
The material released so far points toward a high-intensity relationship rather than a soft, low-conflict romance. Promotional coverage has emphasized forced proximity, a marriage arrangement, separation and reunion.
Are There Kiss Scenes?
Yes — promotional material has already shown romantic physical intimacy.
MangoTV has released official clips teasing close physical contact and romantic tension between Cheng Lei and Xu Ruohan, including an official “earlobe kiss” behind-the-scenes clip and other affectionate footage.
That does not tell us how frequent the romance will be in the finished drama, but this is definitely not looking like a no-kiss situation.
Does The Lament of Autumn Have a Happy Ending?
Unknown right now.
The drama has not aired, so there is no verified television ending yet. I will not label it happy, tragic or ambiguous until the finale is actually available.
Search results already show people asking about the novel ending, but that is not enough to assume the drama will copy it exactly.
What About the Novel Ending?
The original novel is by Ling Xi. There has been years of online discussion describing the book as emotionally heavy and tragic, but the author’s own archived note cautioned readers not to judge the ending based only on comments and partial spoilers.
Because adaptations can also change endings, I am keeping the novel and drama separate for now.
Translation: I am not trusting random spoiler telephone with my emotional well-being. 😂
Do Yu Changxuan and Ye Pingjun Break Up?
The released story information strongly suggests a major separation after marriage and later reunion, but I am not classifying that as the drama’s official breakup timeline until the episodes air.
Once the series is available, I’ll track the exact relationship status, separation length, reconciliation, kissing, and final ending.
Where Will The Lament of Autumn Stream?
- MangoTV — officially listed.
- Hunan TV — officially listed broadcast network.
U.S. availability and English subtitles are not yet confirmed here. I’ll update that once an official international listing appears.
What I’m Watching For
For romance viewers, these are the questions that matter most:
- When do Yu Changxuan and Ye Pingjun become an actual couple?
- Is the marriage forced, contractual, strategic or genuinely mutual?
- How long is the major separation?
- How much of the romance is push-pull versus devoted?
- How many proper kiss scenes make the final cut?
- Does the adaptation keep or change the source-material ending?
- Most importantly: do they end together?
I’ll update this page once the official premiere schedule and international streaming details are confirmed.
