My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.
A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
I loved the chemistry between Song Yi and Cheng Lei. I also loved that Li Shuang is genuinely capable. A female general who actually has authority, intelligence, combat ability and agency? YES, please. ๐
The chemistry and Li Shuang being genuinely capable carried this one to a 4/5.
Li Shuang takes in an amnesiac man and calls him Jin An. His real identity, Duan Aodeng, comes with enemy-state complications. But before we get through all of that, the drama has another surprise.
Apparently the solution to mysterious enemy prince was temporarily Pocket-Sized Cheng Lei. ๐
He literally turns into a little kid. This is an actual magical transformation, not a flashback or dream. The Jade Linglong / ็็ฒ็ fuses with him, and the unstable fusion contributes to his amnesia and unusual physical transformations. He later returns to his adult form.
The attraction, trust and protectiveness grow before the finale. Jin An is devoted during the main romance, and Song Yi and Cheng Lei make the affection work. I loved their chemistry. โค๏ธ
We get a major deep kiss and explicit mutual feelings around Episode 15, then marriage in Episode 28. There is real romantic development and payoff here.
The identity, memory loss and enemy-state conflict make the later story messy. And I need to be very clear: this is NOT breakup-free.
In Episode 31, his old identity and memories return. He targets Li Shuangโs father because he believes her father caused his brotherโs death. She stabs him in the shoulder and explicitly ends their relationship. That is an actual major breakup, not just an argument.
Afterward, he loses memories connected to his time as Jin An. They become opposing figures tied to enemy states, and Li Shuang becomes his prisoner. The late separation and hostility are heavy, even after his memories return and politics still keep them apart.
There are apparent/fake death complications, but they ultimately survive and reunite. They leave political life behind and live together in seclusion.
Final couple status: Married / together. Clear Happy Ending. I am happy about the reunion, but it does not erase the actual breakup and substantial late separation.
I loved the lead chemistry. I loved having a female general who is genuinely capable. And yes, I am still laughing about the temporary child-sized male lead. ๐
The late plot is messy, and the memory-loss/enemy arc brings serious problems. But the chemistry, Li Shuang and the romantic payoff made this one enjoyable for me.
