A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
My Review
⭐ Rating: 3.5/5 Watch Status: Finished Ending: Happy Ending Main Couple: Married and Together Breakup: None
Zhang Linghe carried this entire drama on his shoulders. 😂 I said what I said.
The Best Thing was cute, pretty, comforting, and ridiculously easy to watch, but He Suye was absolutely the best thing about The Best Thing. 😭❤️ Without Zhang Linghe, I honestly do not think this drama would have hit the same for me.
And He Suye is not just a green flag.
That man is a whole green traffic light. GO. PROCEED. THE ROAD IS CLEAR. 😂💚
He is gentle without being boring, protective without being controlling, affectionate without being suffocating, and supportive of Shen Xifan having an actual life outside of him.
The basic setup is simple. Shen Xifan is an overworked hotel manager dealing with insomnia and migraines when she begins seeing traditional Chinese medicine doctor He Suye. Doctor-patient interactions turn into repeated neighborhood encounters, friendship, attraction, and eventually romance.
And once these two finally get together, the drama does NOT start inventing stupid relationship problems just to tear them apart.
THANK YOU. 😭
💚 He Suye: GREEN LIGHT
This man understands one of my favorite things in a romance: loving somebody does not mean controlling their entire existence.
When Shen Xifan wants to study abroad, He Suye obviously does not love the idea of spending that much time away from his girlfriend, but he still supports her because it matters to HER.
When she later considers changing her plans because of her mother’s illness, he does not order her around or decide her future for her. He supports her choice.
He communicates. He listens. He apologizes. He shows up.
ZLH, your back must hurt from carrying 28 episodes. 😂
💕 Romance & Chemistry
The romance is more soft, warm, affectionate, and domestic than scorching hot, but there is real romantic payoff.
They kiss, hug, hold hands, date, spend time together, and behave like an actual couple once they become official.
The drama does not make us survive 28 episodes for one pathetic forehead kiss. 😂
Their first kiss happens around Episode 12.
He Suye formally confesses around Episode 13, but Shen Xifan turns him down because she is afraid of repeating the pain of her previous long-distance relationship.
IMPORTANT: This is NOT a breakup. They were not officially dating yet.
Shen Xifan finally accepts her feelings and confesses around Episode 18, directly asking He Suye to be her boyfriend.
And Dr. He basically says enough talking and kisses her. 😂❤️
Their official dating era begins from there.
💔 Breakup Status: NONE
This is one of the things I appreciated most.
There is NO actual breakup after they become a couple.
Around Episode 26, Shen Xifan becomes angry after learning that He Suye knew about her mother’s breast cancer diagnosis and had respected her mother’s request not to tell her yet.
They have a serious argument and brief emotional conflict.
But:
- They do NOT end the relationship.
- They reconcile within the same episode.
- Do NOT classify this as a breakup.
That is an argument, not a breakup.
THANK YOU FOR KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE. 😂
✈️ Late Separation
There is a physical long-distance separation near the end when Shen Xifan goes to Switzerland for study/work.
This is NOT a breakup.
They remain committed to each other and continue communicating while apart.
The separation is compressed mainly into the last couple of episodes rather than becoming a giant miserable breakup arc.
So the correct classification is:
- Breakup: No
- Physical separation: Yes
- Relationship remains intact: Yes
- Reconciliation after breakup required: No, because they never broke up
🎉 Ending
CLEAR HAPPY ENDING.
No ambiguity.
No “maybe they meet again someday.”
No reincarnation loophole.
No random bird flying into the sunset while I am supposed to guess whether the couple is alive. 😂
Shen Xifan returns.
She and He Suye remain together.
They get engaged.
And the drama actually gives us a wedding.
Final status: MARRIED AND TOGETHER. ❤️💍
💗 Shen Zhiyi’s Drama Reality Check
Finished · 28 episodes. Ending and relationship spoilers below.
- 💕 Romance
- Moderate to strong. The romance develops gradually, becomes official well before the finale, and gets substantial dating-era payoff.
- 🔥 Chemistry
- Good.Zhang Linghe and Xu Ruohan have comfortable, soft romantic chemistry, with ZLH doing a lot of the heavy lifting for me.
- 💋 Kissing
- Good.Multiple real kisses after the relationship develops, including romantic couple-era kisses. Not just one finale kiss.
- 🤗 Skinship
- Good.Hugging, hand-holding, physical closeness, dates, and comfortable couple affection.
- 🌶️ Spiciness / Adult Intimacy
- Mild.Romantic and affectionate rather than sexually intense.
- 🚩 ML Red Flag
- Very low / Green light. He Suye is supportive, respectful, patient, protective without being controlling, and generally communicates well.
- 👑 Female Lead Competence
- Competent.Shen Xifan is an adult professional with her own career, decisions, fears, and goals. She is not written as helpless.
- ⏱️ Romance Timing
- Moderate.Attraction builds through the first half; the relationship becomes official around Episode 18 of 28, leaving a meaningful dating period before the finale.
- ❤️🔥 Relationship Payoff
- Strong.Dating, kissing, affection, long-distance commitment, proposal, and wedding are all included.
- 💔 Breakup
- None. The established couple never actually ends their relationship.
- ⏳ Separation / Conflict
- Moderate. There is a significant argument around Episode 26 and a later study-abroad/work separation, but neither becomes a breakup.
- 💍 Final Relationship Status
- Married and Together.
- 📖 Plot
- Comforting but not especially strong for me.The medical/slice-of-life plot works as a framework for the romance, but Zhang Linghe was the biggest reason I stayed invested.
- 🐾 Animal Harm
- No dog/cat harm identified in the approved research. Not a frame-by-frame guarantee; other animal harm is unconfirmed.
About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.

🔎 Factual Reality Check
Insomnia / acupuncture
The drama presents acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine as part of Shen Xifan’s treatment for insomnia.
Research suggests acupuncture may help some insomnia symptoms, but the supporting evidence is limited and inconsistent. Evidence-based care still considers CBT-I a major first-line treatment for chronic insomnia.
Assessment: Partly realistic / somewhat romanticized.
Migraines / acupuncture
Acupuncture has some evidence suggesting it may help reduce migraine frequency for certain patients, although the size and mechanism of the benefit remain debated.
Assessment: Reasonably plausible as an adjunct treatment.
Breast cancer treatment
Shen Xifan’s mother’s early-stage breast cancer, surgery, and follow-up treatment are broadly plausible.
However, the drama simplifies some treatment-decision details. Breast cancer treatment depends on tumor biology, hormone-receptor status, stage, age, and other clinical factors rather than being a simple one-size-fits-all decision.
Assessment: Broadly realistic but medically simplified.
