A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
🌸 My Review
I actually made it through all 33 episodes, so that already says something. 😂
When Destiny Brings the Demon gave me a romance I could get behind: ridiculously powerful, emotionally damaged Sima Jiao becomes completely attached to Liao Tingyan, and she gradually becomes the one person capable of calming this man down before he sets the cultivation world on fire.
The relationship thankfully develops DURING the drama. We are not sitting around until Episode 32 begging these people to touch each other. Sima Jiao kisses her around Episode 13, the feelings become clearly mutual, and we get more kissing and affection afterward.
And then apparently happiness became illegal. 😭
These two go through memory loss, forced separation, gigantic time skips, death, reincarnation, another lifetime, and yet another separation. Sir, how many times do these people have to find each other?!
One of the biggest separations happens after the disaster around Episode 19, when Liao Tingyan disappears and loses her memories and roughly 18 years pass.
Then Sima Jiao eventually sacrifices himself to save her and dies around Episode 29. She waits another roughly 19 years before learning he has reincarnated in the human world.
That is NOT a breakup. Neither of them chooses to end the relationship. This drama simply enjoys making them suffer. 😂
Eventually his memories return, and by Episode 33 they actually GET MARRIED.
Wonderful. Give me my happy ending.
NOPE. 😂
After the final battle, Liao Tingyan uses up her remaining power and begins disappearing. She returns to the modern world as Zou Yan, wakes up in the hospital, recovers, and goes back to work.
And only at the VERY END does she run into the modern Sima Jiao.
That is my problem.
After three lifetimes, multiple separations, death, reincarnation, memory loss, and an actual wedding, I needed more than:
SURPRISE! THERE HE IS! THE END. 😭🤦♀️
The reunion makes it clear destiny brought them together again, but the drama barely lets us enjoy it. We do not get a proper modern-life epilogue showing them rebuilding the relationship, dating again, living together, married again, or basically doing ANYTHING besides finding each other.
Give me ten more minutes. Five! I will negotiate! 😂
After approximately 700 years of relationship obstacles, you cannot hand me thirty seconds of modern Arthur Chen and send me home.
That last-minute reunion is exactly why this gets 3.5/5.
Ending Status
Happy Ending — but rushed.
They marry in Episode 33 before the final battle. Liao Tingyan later disappears from the cultivation world and returns to modern China. In the closing moments, she encounters Sima Jiao’s modern counterpart.
Their romantic continuation is strongly implied, so this qualifies as a Happy Ending, but there is almost no time to enjoy the reunion.

About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.

THE ROMANCE CHECK
Quick Answers
Relationship spoilers below.
- Happy ending?
- Yes, but rushed. They marry in Episode 33 before the final cross-world separation; their modern counterparts meet only in the closing moments.
- Do they break up?
- No. Neither voluntarily ends the romantic relationship.
- Are they separated?
- Yes — multiple major forced/death/reincarnation separations, memory loss and long time skips.
- Do they end together?
- The closing modern reunion strongly implies romantic continuation, without a substantial modern epilogue.
- Why 3.5/5?
- The last-minute reunion gives almost no time to enjoy their happy ending.
⭐⭐⭐½ — 3.5/5
Finished
Good romance. Strong devotion. Plenty of affection. No stupid voluntary breakup.
But after making these two claw their way back to each other through multiple lifetimes, I wanted to SEE THE HAPPY ENDING, not have it tossed at me while the credits were warming up backstage. 😭😂
The last-minute modern reunion is the reason for the 3.5/5.
