A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
🌸 My Review
Opening Reaction
I actually liked Youthful Glory quite a bit. It had one of my favorite setups: powerful cold general + arranged marriage + wife slowly discovering that her scary husband is actually completely whipped for her. 😂❤️
Jiang Xu starts out reserved and intimidating, but married Jiang Xu is where the fun is. He becomes protective, jealous, attentive, and increasingly incapable of pretending Ming Tan is just some convenient political wife.
And thankfully, this isn't one of those historical romances where they marry and then spend 27 episodes acting like coworkers.
They actually get married fairly early, and the romance keeps developing after that instead of saving everything for the finale.
There are plenty of cute married-couple moments too: him caring for her, carrying her, washing her hair, getting jealous, protecting her, and generally becoming much softer around her.
The drama actually lets them behave like husband and wife, which automatically earns points with me. 😂
But Those Wigs
It would’ve been a 4.5 but those women’s wigs tho.
I am sorry.
THE WOMEN'S WIGS.
😭😭😭
This honestly would've been a 4.5/5 for me if the women's hair hadn't kept distracting me.
Some of those hairstyles looked so bulky and unnatural that I would be trying to pay attention to the scene and instead my brain was going:
Why does her head have an annex?
The costumes could be beautiful. The sets could be beautiful. Song Weilong could be standing there looking like Song Weilong.
And I was staring at the wig. 🤦♀️
So congratulations, wig department.
You personally cost this drama half a star. 😂
Jiang Xu & Ming Tan
This is definitely a marriage-first, love-later romance.
What I liked is that Jiang Xu isn't cruel to her just because he's supposed to be the cold general. He protects her repeatedly, pays attention to what she likes, and gradually becomes a genuinely caring husband.
There is an annoying relationship conflict when Ming Tan's father is framed and Jiang Xu secretly fakes his death to protect him. Because Ming Tan doesn't know what Jiang Xu is doing, she becomes distant from him.
I would not count this as a formal breakup.
They're still married.
It's an emotional falling-out caused by Jiang Xu keeping an enormous secret from her.
Annoying? A little.
Three-quarter-drama breakup disaster?
No. Thank goodness.
Ending
Happy Ending. No tricks.
Ming Tan and Jiang Xu survive the political mess, remain married, and Ming Tan becomes pregnant.
A later time jump shows them happily raising a son and daughter together.
That is the kind of ending I want after 30 episodes.
Show me the marriage. Show me the babies. Prove these people stayed together. 😂❤️

About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.
⭐ Final Rating
⭐ 4/5
I would've given Youthful Glory 4.5/5.
But unfortunately…
those women's wigs tho. 😭
Half star: confiscated.
