A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL

🌸 My Review

I made it to Episode 18, so I gave this drama a fair chance.

Then the dogs started suffering.

Nope. 😭🐾

The whole rescue-dog storyline should have been something I loved because obviously: DOGS. Instead, this drama kept putting the dogs in danger, injuring them, and then even gave us a dead rescue dog in the backstory.

If you love dogs, don’t watch this one.

That is basically my review. 😂

The romance itself actually was not the reason I dropped it. Xu Lai knows exactly who she wants, Jin Shichuan takes longer to get with the program, and they become an official couple at a pretty reasonable point.

But I could not enjoy the romance while sitting there wondering which dog was going to get hurt next.

So I stopped at Episode 18.

And apparently that was also right when Jin Shichuan decided to start his “I am injured, therefore I must break up with you for your own good” nonsense.

Sir. 🙄

Between that and the dog suffering, I was done.

Dropped. No rating.

🐾 THE DOG PROBLEM

This was not one isolated dog scene.

  • Episode 6: We learn that Jin Shichuan’s former rescue dog Zhui Feng (追风) was seriously injured while rescuing Jin Shichuan and later died from exhaustion. His death left Jin Shichuan traumatized and unwilling to work with rescue dogs again.
  • Episode 9: Zhang Yang secretly overtrains his rescue dog Champion (冠军). Champion is then injured while jumping through a ring of fire during training.
  • Episode 9: Later, Ping’an jumps into the water when Jin Shichuan is struggling during a rescue. Ping’an helps save him but then collapses on the beach and has to be rushed to the animal hospital.

So yes:

If you love dogs, don’t watch this one. 😭🐾

That repeated dog injury/distress is the main reason I dropped the drama.

💕 THE ROMANCE

Ironically, the actual romance was doing pretty well before I quit.

Xu Lai has basically been carrying a torch for Jin Shichuan since he rescued her ten years earlier. She is not shy about going after him either.

She kisses him first, he eventually realizes he is very much into her, and they officially get together before the halfway point.

So this was not one of those dramas where I sat through thirty-five episodes waiting for somebody to admit they had feelings.

Unfortunately, the dogs ruined it for me first. 😭

💕 Romance
Strong romance focus mixed with firefighting, rescue missions, and rescue-dog training. The romance develops well before the finale.
🔥 Chemistry
Good chemistry. Xu Lai is much more forward at first, while Jin Shichuan gradually gives in and becomes openly affectionate.
💋 Kissing
Good. Xu Lai kisses him first in Episode 6, Jin Shichuan gives her a mutual romantic kiss in Episode 12, and there are additional kisses after they begin dating.
🤗 Skinship
Moderate. They become noticeably more affectionate once they are officially together.
🌶️ Spiciness / Adult Intimacy
Low. Romantic and affectionate rather than sexually intense.
🚩 ML Red Flag
Moderate. Jin Shichuan is protective and caring, but his Episode 18 decision to break up with Xu Lai because he thinks he knows what is best for her earns him some serious 🙄 points.
👑 Female Lead Competence
Strong. Xu Lai is a reporter and trained international rescue-dog trainer. She is persistent, capable, and knows exactly what she wants.
⏱️ Romance Timing
Good. First kiss in Episode 6, mutual kiss in Episode 12, and official relationship in Episode 13 of 36.
❤️‍🔥 Relationship Payoff
High if you finish the drama. Dating → reconciliation → proposal → wedding → married epilogue.Researched — not personally watched.
💔 Breakup
YES. Jin Shichuan initiates an actual breakup in Episode 18 because of his leg injury and fear about his future. They reconcile in Episode 21.Events after Episode 18, including reconciliation and the later coma, are researched — not personally watched.
⏳ Separation / Conflict
Moderate to high. There is the Episode 18–21 breakup/conflict period plus dangerous rescue missions and a later critical injury/coma.Events after Episode 18, including reconciliation and the later coma, are researched — not personally watched.
💍 Final Relationship Status
Married, alive, and together.Researched — not personally watched.
📖 Plot
Firefighters + reporter + rescue dogs + romance. The drama mixes emergency rescues, rescue-dog training, workplace stories, and relationship development.
🐾 Animal Harm
🚨 HIGH — repeated dog injury, danger, distress, and a confirmed rescue-dog death in the backstory. Champion is injured jumping through a ring of fire after being overtrained. Ping’an collapses after entering the water during a rescue and is rushed to the hospital. Jin Shichuan’s former rescue dog Zhui Feng is revealed to have died from exhaustion after being seriously injured while rescuing him. This is the main reason I dropped the drama. If you love dogs, don’t watch this one.
About these assessments

My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.

❌ DROPPED AT EPISODE 18 — NO RATING

There were things here I liked. Xu Lai was capable, the romance actually moved, and William Chan being a protective firefighter certainly was not hurting anything. 👀

But once the drama started repeatedly hurting the rescue dogs, I was out.

One injured dog scene was already bad enough.

Then we got Champion and the ring of fire.

Then Ping’an collapsed after the water rescue.

Then there was Zhui Feng’s death in the backstory.

If you love dogs, don’t watch this one.

I came for romance.

I did not enroll in the Search-and-Rescue Dog Suffering Olympics. 😭🐾

Dropped at Episode 18. No rating.
