A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
🌸 My Review
The beginning was HOT. 🔥
And I mean they wasted absolutely no time. We had attraction, kissing, sleeping together, and a whole “well apparently we’re doing THIS now” situation basically right out of the gate. 😭
And then it just went…
………………
Where did my drama go?? 😂
Somewhere along the way, all that spicy chaotic energy got swallowed by court politics, noble families, succession drama, corruption, factions, and approximately 8,000 people plotting against each other.
The romance never completely disappeared, but the thing that grabbed me in the beginning definitely lost steam.
I did like Zhao Yang. She is smart, strategic, morally messy, and actually knows how to survive court politics. I will always take a woman who can scheme over one wandering around the palace asking everybody what is happening. 👀
Shen Xiao was also a good match for her because he respected her intelligence instead of constantly trying to save her from herself. He becomes protective and devoted without turning her into a helpless idiot.
Their relationship is honestly healthier than a lot of the nonsense happening around them. They trust each other, work together, and the drama gives them real romantic and physical chemistry.
But for me, the opening promised one drama and the middle started giving me another one. 😭
The chemistry was still there. The leads were attractive. The story was perfectly watchable.
My excitement just went 📉.
3/5. The beginning was hot… and then it just went…… 😭😂
Ending
Happy Ending ❤️
The main couple survives and ends together. There is no formal breakup between Zhao Yang and Shen Xiao.
Political events temporarily separate them and include a presumed-death scare, but this is a separation/conflict, not a breakup. Shen Xiao survives and returns; they reunite and finish the drama together.
There is no on-screen wedding.
Final relationship status: Alive + Together + Publicly acknowledged couple.

- Good. The early chemistry is one of the drama’s strongest selling points.
- 💋 Kissing
- Good, especially early in the drama.
- 🤗 Skinship
- Good. Physical affection and closeness are present beyond kissing.
- 🌶️ Spiciness / Adult Intimacy
- High for a full-length C-drama opening. The leads become sexually involved very early.
- 🚩 ML Red Flag
- Low. Shen Xiao can be stubborn, but he generally respects Zhao Yang and her intelligence.
- 👑 Female Lead Competence
- High. Zhao Yang is strategic, politically capable, and actively drives the plot.
- ⏱️ Romance Timing
- Very early physically; deeper emotional commitment develops afterward.
- ❤️🔥 Relationship Payoff
- Decent, although the later political plot reduces some of the romantic momentum.
- 💔 Breakup

About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.
⭐ Final Rating
⭐ 3/5
The beginning was hot… and then it just went…… 😭😂
Good chemistry and a capable female lead, but the growing focus on palace politics and plotting drained the romantic momentum for me.
