A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
🌸 My Review
This drama basically asked, “How emotionally attached can we make you to a firefighter?” and then handed me Yang Yang in uniform. 😂
Song Yan and Xu Qin were in love when they were younger, but her extremely controlling family tore them apart. Ten years later, he is a firefighter and she is an ER doctor, and naturally their jobs keep throwing them into emergencies together until all those supposedly buried feelings start crawling back out.
And this romance took its SWEET TIME.
That is probably the biggest reason this stays at 3.5/5 instead of getting into my 4+ territory. They do not officially get back together until around Episode 25 out of 40.
I like my romance moving, thank you. 😭
But once they finally stop fighting destiny, their relationship becomes so much better. Song Yan is protective, stubborn, loyal, and ridiculously devoted. Xu Qin also finally starts choosing the life she wants instead of the life her mother designed for her.
😭 THE EARTHQUAKE ARC
This was absolutely the part that got me.
Episodes 22–24 throw both of them into a major earthquake rescue operation with collapsed buildings, trapped victims, injuries, exhausted rescuers, and Song Yan repeatedly putting himself in danger.
And then Xu Qin basically hits me with:
“HE IS MY LIFE!!!”
MA'AM. 😭😭😭
That rubble/rescue sequence got me because these two had already lost roughly ten years together. The possibility that she could permanently lose him hits completely differently.
The earthquake also becomes a major emotional turning point. After everything they survive, neither one can keep pretending they do not still love each other.
❤️ Song Yan + Xu Qin
Their relationship is one giant second-chance romance.
Once they officially reconcile around Episode 25, the drama thankfully does not put them through a repetitive breakup-get-back-together cycle.
There are arguments, dangerous jobs, and plenty of family interference, but no verified formal breakup after the adult reconciliation.
And once we finally get there, I get what I came for:
- actual dating ❤️
- kissing
- hugging and domestic affection
- protective Song Yan
- Xu Qin openly choosing him
- living together/shared domestic life
- proposal
- engagement
- wedding plans
FINALLY. 👏
🙄 Xu Qin's Mother: Professional Joy Destroyer
The biggest relationship villain is not another woman.
It is Mommy Dearest.
Fu Wenying controls basically every aspect of Xu Qin's life and treats social status like it is part of the Ten Commandments. She was heavily responsible for destroying Xu Qin and Song Yan's teenage relationship and continues opposing them when they reconnect.
Xu Qin takes way too long to truly stand up to her family, which frustrated me, but it is also a major part of her character growth.
Eventually she finally chooses Song Yan and the life she actually wants.
ABOUT TIME. 😂
Ending — Happy Ending
Song Yan and Xu Qin end alive, together, engaged, committed to a shared future, and planning marriage.
Song Yan proposes around Episode 39 and Xu Qin accepts. Episode 40 confirms that they remain together and are preparing for their future/wedding.
A completed on-screen wedding ceremony is not claimed.
Final relationship status: Engaged, alive, together, wedding planned.

💗 Shen Zhiyi’s Drama Reality Check
Finished all 40 episodes. Full romance, rescue and ending spoilers.
- 💕 Romance
- Strong second-chance romance, but frustratingly slow to become official in the adult timeline.
- 🔥 Chemistry
- Strong. The longing and comfortable couple stage both work.
- 💋 Kissing
- Good once they finally reconcile; kissing payoff comes with the later relationship stage.
- 🤗 Skinship
- Good after reconciliation — hugs, cuddling, physical closeness, and domestic affection.
- 🌶️ Spiciness / Adult Intimacy
- Mild-to-moderate. Adult intimacy is implied, but this is not an especially spicy drama.
- 🚩 ML Red Flag
- Low. Song Yan can be stubborn and emotionally guarded, but he is loyal, protective, and devoted.
- 👑 Female Lead Competence
- High professionally as a doctor; much more frustrating personally because of how long she remains under her family's control.
- ⏱️ Romance Timing
- Slow. Adult reconciliation is around Episode 25/40.
- ❤️🔥 Relationship Payoff
- Strong once they get together — dating, affection, domestic life, proposal, engagement, and wedding plans.
- 💔 Breakup
- Yes in the backstory. Their teenage relationship genuinely ends because of family pressure. No verified formal breakup after the adult reconciliation.
- ⏳ Separation / Conflict
- Major roughly ten-year historical separation plus continuing family opposition and dangerous rescue/work situations.
- 💍 Final Relationship Status
- Engaged, alive, together, wedding planned. Happy Ending.
- 📖 Plot
- Romance mixed with firefighting, medicine, rescue/disaster situations, and heavy family melodrama. The rescue sequences are some of the strongest emotional material.
- 🐾 Animal Harm
- No significant dog/cat harm or death verified.
About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.
⭐ Final Rating: 3.5/5
⭐ 3.5/5 · Finished
I liked the chemistry, Song Yan’s devotion, the emotional rescue arc and the relationship payoff once they finally got there. The earthquake scenes made me cry, and the ending gives them a clear future together.
But the slow romance is the biggest reason this stays at 3.5/5 rather than 4 or higher. Around Episode 25 of 40 is late for my patience, and Xu Qin’s family gets far too much control over the story before she fully chooses her own life. Good payoff. Too much waiting. My firefighter husband came with a very long family approval process. 😭
