A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL

🌸 My Review

Why are they always at the yamen?! This family needs to have their own booth there.

Okay, first of all…

WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS AT THE YAMEN?! 😭😂

At this point the Jiang family needs their own booth there.

“Welcome back, Miss Jiang. Your usual seat is ready.”

Seriously. Somebody is murdered? Yamen. Somebody gets kidnapped? Yamen. Evil relative acting up? Yamen. Random conspiracy? BACK TO THE YAMEN. 🤦‍♀️

Aside from apparently having a season pass to government offices, Si Jin is actually a pretty entertaining rebirth drama.

Jiang Si dies in her first life and gets another chance to redo everything. This time she refuses to quietly accept the garbage people throw at her. She breaks away from the future she remembers, protects her family, investigates what happened to the people she lost, and starts changing the tragedies from her previous life.

And thankfully, Jiang Si is capable.

She schemes. She investigates. She fights back. She will absolutely set a trap for somebody and wait for them to walk directly into it. 👀

That automatically makes this kind of rebirth story much easier for me to watch.

❤️ Jiang Si & Yu Jin

Their romance is interesting because Jiang Si remembers their previous life while Yu Jin does not.

From her perspective, this is the man she loved…and also the man whose arrow killed her.

So understandably she is basically:

Maybe we DON'T do this again. 😂

Meanwhile Yu Jin meets her again with no memory of their previous relationship and proceeds to fall for the same woman all over again.

Once Yu Jin chooses Jiang Si, though, he is very firm about it.

When the emperor tries to force another marriage arrangement on him, Yu Jin refuses. He wants Jiang Si only.

That man was basically ready to resign from being a prince before accepting another wife. 😂❤️

💋 Romance & Chemistry

The chemistry is good, but this is not one of those dramas where the couple is making out every fifteen minutes.

There are kisses and romantic moments, but the plot gets more screen time than the physical romance.

Their relationship becomes much stronger around the middle of the drama, and eventually Yu Jin publicly chooses Jiang Si, they become engaged, and they marry.

🙄 The Stuff That Dragged

My biggest issue is how repetitive parts of the plot become.

There are only so many times somebody can:

  • commit a crime
  • get accused
  • go to the yamen
  • argue at the yamen
  • investigate something
  • and RETURN TO THE YAMEN

before I start wondering whether this family should just move into the building. 😭

The story is not bad, but sometimes it feels like we are cycling through another villain, another scheme, another investigation.

Hence the 3.5 instead of a 4.

Ending

Happy Ending — with a late physical separation.

Jiang Si and Yu Jin do not break up after becoming a couple.

They marry before the final stretch.

Near the end, Jiang Si remains in Nanwu for roughly one year while working toward peace and trade between Nanwu and Great Zhou. This is a geographic separation, not a breakup.

Then she returns.

Yu Jin becomes emperor.

Jiang Si becomes his empress.

They finish the drama married, alive, reunited, and together. ❤️👑

The ending also reveals how deeply Yu Jin loved Jiang Si in the previous life and the sacrifice connected to her getting another chance.

So technically…

THIS MAN LOVED HER SO MUCH HE PAID FOR NEW GAME+. 😭❤️

About these assessments

My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.

⭐ Final Rating

3.5/5 — Finished — Happy Ending.

An entertaining rebirth drama with a capable heroine and a devoted prince, but the repeated schemes and yamen visits dragged for me.
