A PERSONAL VIEWING JOURNAL
🌸 My Review
You Are My Fateful Love Review — Cute, But We Waited HOW Long? 😭
⭐ 3/5 📺 Finished 💖 Happy Ending
You Are My Fateful Love is one of those dramas where the setup is almost tailor-made for me: mutual secret crush, reunion years later, a protective male lead, and two people slowly realizing their high-school love was never one-sided.
Ruan Yu is a novelist who gets accused of plagiarism and ends up working with intellectual-property lawyer Xu Huaisong — her high-school crush and, awkwardly enough, the inspiration for the male lead in her novel. 😂
The problem?
These two take until Episode 24 out of 30 to officially become a couple.
TWENTY. FOUR. 😭
I can appreciate a good mutual-pining story, but at some point I need everyone to stop staring emotionally across rooms and START DATING.
Once they finally get together, though, the drama becomes much more satisfying. We get actual kisses, hand-holding, affectionate couple scenes, a sleepover, jealousy, protective boyfriend behavior, a proposal, a marriage certificate, AND a wedding.
So yes, the drama eventually paid its romance bill. It was just extremely late with the payment. 😂
The Couple
Xu Huaisong and Ruan Yu both liked each other back in high school, but misunderstandings and bad timing caused them to miss their chance.
Years later they reconnect because of Ruan Yu’s plagiarism case. The drama gradually reveals that Xu Huaisong’s feelings were never one-sided either.
Episode 23 finally gives Ruan Yu proof of just how long he had loved her, including the things he had saved about her from their school days.
Then Episode 24 FINALLY gives us the confession, kissing, and official relationship.
Thank you. We only had six episodes left. 🤦♀️😂
The nice part is that once they become a couple, the drama does not immediately manufacture some ridiculous breakup just to create finale drama. They actually support each other through the heavier legal and family conflicts.
Romance, Chemistry & Payoff
The chemistry is sweet and believable, especially once the romance moves past the endless secret-crush stage.
There is much more physical affection after Episode 24:
- Kissing
- Hugs
- Hand-holding
- Domestic couple moments
- Protective boyfriend behavior
- Jealousy without turning the relationship toxic
- An implied intimate night together
The romance payoff is actually strong at the end.
Episode 29 gives us a proposal AND marriage registration. They literally go get their marriage certificate.
Episode 30 gives us the wedding.
See? This is how you prove a happy ending. Give me DOCUMENTATION. 😂❤️

💗 Shen Zhiyi’s Drama Reality Check
Finished all 30 episodes. Full romance and ending spoilers.
- 💕 Romance
- Sweet mutual-secret-crush reunion romance, but very slow-burn.
- 🔥 Chemistry
- Warm and believable; improves considerably once they stop circling each other.
- 💋 Kissing
- Good after Episode 24, with multiple proper kisses.
- 🤗 Skinship
- Hugs, hand-holding, cuddly/domestic moments, carrying, and comfortable couple affection.
- 🌶️ Spiciness / Adult Intimacy
- Mild-to-moderate. An intimate night is implied after they become a couple, but nothing explicit.
- 🚩 ML Red Flag
- Low. Xu Huaisong is protective and devoted with some jealousy, but he is not seriously toxic.
- 👑 Female Lead Competence
- Strong. Ruan Yu handles her career problems, confrontations, dangerous situations, and supports Xu Huaisong without becoming helpless.
- ⏱️ Romance Timing
- Late. Official relationship in Episode 24/30. 😭
- ❤️🔥 Relationship Payoff
- Strong once it arrives — dating, kisses, affection, proposal, legal marriage, and wedding.
- 💔 Breakup
- None verified after they become an established couple.
- ⏳ Separation / Conflict
- Work/geographic distance plus legal, family, and criminal-case stress; not a formal romantic breakup.
- 💍 Final Relationship Status
- Married. Proposal and marriage certificate in Episode 29; wedding in Episode 30.
- 📖 Plot
- Romance mixed with writing/publishing, intellectual-property law, family issues, and a darker criminal/legal storyline late in the drama.
- 🐾 Animal Harm
- No verified dog/cat harm.
About these assessments
My impressions cover what I watched. Later research is labeled on dropped reviews. Kissing, affection and adult intimacy are separate; coercion does not count as romantic spice. Being apart does not automatically mean a breakup.
⭐ Final Rating
3/5 — Finished
Cute mutual-pining romance with good payoff once it finally arrives, but making me wait until Episode 24 for the official relationship is exactly why this stays in my 3/5 zone. 😂
At least the ending knows what I want: proposal, marriage certificate, wedding, everybody alive.
Finished. 3/5. Happy Ending. No breakup. Married. ❤️
